I like the pictures of the dog and the guy... the lighting is wonderful in the dog picture (and the dog is cute ), and I'm impressed at how well the skin tones appear in the last one. Just another reminder that I need a DSLR.

the 50mm 1.8 takes good pics but i tried one and i thought it felt cheap. ive heard of it falling apart when people go to focus?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? so i went with the 1.4 good lens however it is a bit more

those panning shots aren't horrible but they aren't easy either!

the 50mm can feel a little cheap but you got to get the USA model, not the imported model. The imported one is the one that tends to fall apart.

Yeah, 4x more.

The 50mm f/1.4 is an awesome lens. It's probably the one I should've bought, instead of my 50mm f/1.8 II. Lots of folks dismiss it and instead praise the 50mm f/1.8 II because of its bang-for-the-buck qualities (and good image quality), but the shots they take are like night and day. The additional cost is definitely justified, IMO. When I checked out my friend's Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, I just laughed and shook my head, because the build quality of the Nikkor lens was so much better.

However, my dad just surprised me with a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM for my early birthday (he's been very supportive of my photographic endeavors), so that should keep me occupied for a while. My first L lens, so I'm very excited!

-Mike
