Default DARKSTI v.Reno Air Races (Jets) [56K = noob]

oday was weird weather wise. I had to deal with blowing dust, clouds and sun. It wrecked havoc on me trying to get everything right.I was going from under-exposing one shot, to over-exposing the next. I feel I am getting better with the jets, but the prop planes still give me trouble. I think part of it is the lense can't get close enough to follow the plane, I noticed the closer the prop plane was, the better. I am pretty happy with how the jets came out. I was really wanting a picture of the F4 Phantom, my grampa flew one during Vietnam and that was what got me hooked on planes. Enough talking, heres the pics:

F4: Sounded great, louder than the F16, but quieter than the F15.

F15 Eagle: This thing sounded amazing, shakes you to your bones.

I liked this picture, it seemed to make the F15 look even more evil.

F16: The quietest (if you can say that lol) of the 3. They (the Thunderbirds) were just doing a survey flight today, the next few days they will do the formations.

Where did you take those from? The ground? Another plane? Noise! I used to work on F-4s in the Marine Corps. Didn't think there were anymore around.

im too lazy to look at EXIF...were you shooting w/ the 70-200 f/2.8?

great shots, its hard to get good crisp shots of planes...especially with the speeds these go and the maneuvers they do.

Yeap, and a Sigma 1.4X extender.

Yea, I had a few times where I caught like a third of the plane

Awesome shots man... What sort of modes do you use for these, shutter priority? How were you compensating for the over/under exposure?

That's a skill I badly need to learn
