^The deal with the border is that i'm a photo/photoshop noob and I'm still working out some issues Learn as you go.

I have a bunch of the field but only one with my car in it. I had an hour to burn before round two of the mother visits. So wifey picked flowers and layed in the field while I grabbed some spring shots.

just curious. it's just that the border itself is huge and wasn't sure what you were trying to achieve.

just trying to achieve a picture that doesn't suck too hard

I'm still learning the camera and how to use the TV and AV settings along with all the others like manual and A-Depth. The manuall is only so helpful. Not to mention learning currect lighting, shutter speed and all that.

Put all that together along with Photoshop and you have me looking like a monkey F'n a football.

Some pictures come out ok but it's mostly pure luck I think.

the easiest setting to use and understand outside the auto & program settings is Av (or aperture priority).

Use this to determine what kind of DOF (depth of field) you want to achieve and go from there. Once you get the hang of that, you can attempt to move onto Tv (shutter priority) and see if you can produce something out of that. I don't use shutter priority often unless im shooting moving cars from a moving car or when I definitely need a long exposure.

Check out Bens Newbie guide to photography if you need more assistance.

Thanks for the hints. I use TV mostly for waterfalls to get different effects. For the most part, I don't know why, I like to use A-Dep. and AV. My pictures seem to come out better that way. Manual is just a pain for me, I need more experience with the camera to learn that setting.

I use the 55mm lense mostly but I do have a 70-300mm zoom but it requires my tripod for the lack of stabilizing so for walking around and point and shoot photos it's not the best. Usually on sunny days like the day I took these photos my pictures come washed out from over exposure. I guess I was just lucky and stumbled across the right setting

i've never used A-dep...but I've definitely used shutter priority for waterfalls.

the 18-55 will do you just fine for now. it isn't a great lens but will do the job until you feel the need to upgrade.
