Default Yin & Yang 08 STIs - Night shots

Hey all, just went out the other night and took a couple photos of this spot my buddy found last week. I'm not really sure what I was trying to accomplish with the shots or angles, just thought the lighting in the area was prime for a night shot.

Comments and criticism welcome and wanted, as I'm very new to photography still. These were shot with my Nikon D40x and the 18-55mm kit lens on a tripod with between 8"-20" exposure.

And these shots, I played with the tone-mapping in Photomatix a bit with the HDR-Effect set to as realistic as possible, as I had never done that before really. The results look very similar to just saturating the **** out of the picture in Photoshop, personally.

I would change about a million things about this shot, and I still like it. Good job.

I sort of wish I had some additional light sources of my own, so that I could light the hood/roof/interior of that shot, but I liked how the side/front came out, so I decided to post it.

Like what? Angle maybe? I would have shot same position, however, I would have tried lowering the camera and shooting up as opposed to down. Maybe lengthen exposure a tad bit more to allow more light on the darker spots of the car?

I had 2 different exposures on that (one for the side of the car, and one for the front bumper), but you're right, I probably should have done another one or two even longer for the hood/roof to light the rest of the car.

The position/angle of the car, the twisted horizon, the trash can - yellow tape - window sticker, the wheel face, the angle of the shot (too high up), the contrast/saturation, the amount of bokeh, etc. It's just not my kind of pic. However, I really like it despite all these things, which to me, makes the shot work. Make no mistake, I'm not downing the OP's pix at all, just saying I would have done it differently.
