Im new with photography..

and i wanna get good at thiss shizz. Ill be taking a photography classs over the summer.
So my question is..

whats the deal with hdr photo's ?
all i know is that u take a bunch of the same photo's but with different exposures..
I have a Canon Rebel XTi with a 18-55 lense.. and i have GIMP(which is like photoshop ..but free

)

how do i do them!????????????

post examples too!

a lot of people use photomatix to do hdr but there are other programs that will do that.

I wouldn't worry too much about hdr. If you're taking a class, learn the basics of good photography first and then do the HDR trick.
