Default Photomatix help please

Ok, so I have 3 sets of 5 bracketed shots..............of the same shot...........diff ev steps etc.. between the 3 sets......

I generate them all in photomatix and end up with 3 hdr files.........so I save them all to compare via xnview..............well they look almost the same in photomatix on screen but in xnview they all look completely different...........WTF? this makes no sense to me..................they should look the same????

any ideas on this?

I understand monitor can't display them correctly, but it shouldn't differ how it displays them.............this makes me wonder if I should EVER choose which I like better in photomatix as they look almost identical......

any ideas?

I'm trying to pick one before I go ahead with tone mapping etc..PP

the first set of help I can provide is to eliminate the need to do multiple sets of ellipses for no reason at all.

the second set of help I can provide is to make sure you do a merge of just the bracketed shots into 1 by making sure the program knows how much of a difference in EV settings all the photos are. (i.e. if they're all off by 1EV stop, the program won't have a problem but if there are differing stops, it will)

Ok, my camera bursts 5 for it. I did 3 sets of 5 shots, using different ev step amm. /settings in each set to see what the difference would end up being. I merged my first 5, then my second 5 so on so on............................so I had 3 .hdr's, I wanted to compare them to see the difference in histogram etc.. and check them..............while looking via xnview (not just thru photomatix histogram) the .3hdr's look totally different in xnview, where as in photomatix they look quite similar.....I was wondering what the reason for this is???? it seems they should display the same??? kinda annoying

does this make sense?

im not familiar with xnview so I couldn't really tell you...

I just did some merging the other night with a set of 3 photos (+/- 1EV) and another set of 9 photos (+/- 1EV) and they all merged like they should but I was using photoshop.

I'll try it again in photomatix so I can remember the process. in photoshop, once you merge them it creates one file but shows the 3 on the side before you apply the tonal curves.

Right. I had taken 3 sets just to see what all the differences would be as I'm still experimenting with it......I merged the 3 sets so I ended up with 3 .hdri's files................all of the same shot.........then I wanted to choose between them via histogram/loook with naked eye.........well I decided to read them in xnview to see what the histogram looks like in there and if it would help me decide which I like best, well they looked totally different in xnview than they did in photomatix. But now i'm sure it's just xnview is not interpolating the hdri correctly.......I guess I should just stay in photomatix......i'll be moving onto PS for trying to tone map etc.. to see what I can do (just been using photomatix in my previous)
