Default Need HDR advice for pentax k10d

Hey, trying to figure out how to use the ev compensation as well as ev step interval to my advantage for hdr. Going to be night shots........anyone have advice on how to use this???? I've read the tutorials and while I can produce some ok stuff I'm really trying to understand what changes affect the photos in what ways. Thanks

JM

ps; im not being trendy, well maybe a little. But i have to learn about the hdr for some work stuff so i'm trying to get a jump on it.

just admit it, you're trying to be trendy. you don't need to be sneeky around us!

in Ben's Guide to Digital Photography, I posted a link on pg. 2 that goes over the different features of a canon camera. the features are the same on *almost* all digital cameras so read up on EV compensation there and it'll give you a better idea of what it does.

for the short version, EV compensation adjusts the exposure up or down based on the "normal" exposed shot. in other words, take a normal shot then shoot again at EV +1 and it will compensate for an OVEREXPOSED shot by 1 stop. EV -1 would compensate for an UNDEREXPOSED shot by 1 stop.

if the whole "1 stop" doesn't make much sense, read more about digital photography to understand.

most HDR images use 3 of the same shots with one shot at -1 EV, one at 0 EV and one at +1 EV. your HDR merge program will take these three, determine what in the -1EV shot looks exposed properly and does the same with the other 2 then combines them into one properly exposed image. of course you need to tweak said image afterwards to get it just right but that's all dependent on the shot. NOT ALL SCENES TURN OUT THE SAME NOR DO THEY ALL LOOK GOOD AFTER MERGED. kthxbye.
