Default Campus after dark

It was F'ing freezing last night. So what did I do? I went out to take some long exposures of campus and freeze my ass off. I need saner hobbies. It did give me some practice with trying to manually focus and play with the 'bulb' mode on Manual, as well as trying to guess how long I should expose something for.

All that geeky camera info is included for those who care. All with my D50 + 18-200mm VR w/ VR on.

Oh and this is the University of Maryland, College Park.

Memorial Chapel

24mm f/18, 30 second exposure. 30 seconds is a bit too long... This was on Shutter Priority w/ a 30 second exposure setting so I could look at what the camera was thinking first.

Memorial Chapel

18mm f/19, 35.5 second exposure. way too long. my fingers were numbing up so it took a while to stop the exposure.

Memorial Chapel

18mm, f/9, 4.5 seconds. just about right...

Memorial Chapel

18mm, f/3.5, 5/8ths of a second.

Memorial Chapel clocktower

50mm, f/4.8 1.3 seconds.

McKeldin Library

90mm, f/9 15 seconds

Route 1

18mm, f/9, 9 seconds.

Steam plant

135mm, f/9, 15 seconds.

Tree

18mm, f/9, 60 seconds.

Admin building

18mm, f/9, 8 seconds.

The Big M

18mm, f/9, 15 seconds.

The Big M, take 2

18mm, f/9, 10 seconds.

I thought about that, but I'm a little scared of HDR. I feel there is a very fine line between good HDR and bad HDR. I do want to play with it a bit at one of the next abandonments I shoot, I'd love to be able to capture the highlights in stained glass of a church or what's outside a window while also being able to clearly see the detail inside the room I'm taking the photo from. (see Urban Exploration Resource: Forum - Thread: Bracket and Blends: How To for an example of what's I'd like to do.) I guess that's more bracketing/blending.

I also would need to get a copy of Photoshop to properly do it I think I'm still using The Gimp.

I'm still pretty n00bish to post processing, I've been taking photos for about a year now and only in the last few months have I really even used The Gimp to tweak them and even then that's just simple sharpen, straighten, color tweeks, and adding the border.
