Default Nikon D40 Amateur Pics

These pictures are from my fiancé's first shoot with an SLR. Her only prior experience was with a P&S making snapshots.

Full manual mode was used with the kit lens. I cropped/ played with color in first one, the others are resized only.

*Sorry for the lack of STi- I'm still in the market

She's got a great eye. We are all trying to develop our technique, but when you start off with a good eye, you're already ahead! The rust shots in B&W would make a interesting shot of textures. Get her out there during better lighting ie early morning, evening. Those shots would be more interesting.

Nice shots, what setting was that shot on? I have a D40 as well.

Thanks guys. I was impressed by how well she handled full manual controls. It was her first time and I only gave her a crash course on the light meter in the car ride down. I'm also glad she really enjoyed shooting.

Zach, each shot was with different settings on M mode. You can view the exif data by saving each pic to your computer then right click and hit 'Properties" then goto the 'Summary' tab at the top. Make sure 'advanced' is selected. The exif data shows all settings used. (I just found this out the other day)

the subject matter isn't very interesting but they do have some potential. Don't zoom in so close and maybe they'll pop a little more. I'd rather see some wall with the window rather than just the window...same with the rusted doors. make sense?

Thanks man. Its especially boring subject matter for an STi forum. I had my 35mm SLR as well that day and it was interesting to see the difference between what each of us shot. The location was an abandoned coal building. She focused on the smaller out buildings while I went towards the huge main building and all the rusted metal around. I told her to focus on detail and I think she did a good job for her first time out. I can't wait to get my hands on the camera, but she told me "It's not yours!" when she bought. I'll have to wait till next weekend I guess!
