Default Porsche Tire Question, sizes in Post #3

This may belong in off-topic. If so, mods, I do apologize...

A friend of mine has a 2002 Boxter S, with the upgraded wheel package (like ten spoke or something). I'm waiting for exact tire sizes, since they are staggered on that car. Here's the question:

He's looking for an alternative to the (over)priced Michelins and Bridgestones that usually come on the car (at $250+ per tire). Does anyone have a tire make and model that you'd recommend for the daily dirver/occasionally spirited driving application? I've seen Yokos, but hav no experience in them.

Falken RT-615s

Hankook Z212 R2s

Both should be 100-140 a tire depending on size/where you order them from. Do a search there are a TON of reviews of the RT-615, everyone loves them, they are great tires. The Hankooks aren't bad either.

Other option, get a set of RE070 take offs, or the Advan 046 (stock Evo tire.)

He just sent me the sizes he needs:

Front: 225/40 ZR 18
Back: 265/35 ZR 18

I'll search more. I knew of the 615s and Hankooks already, but didn't know if they carried these sizes. That's what I need - makes and models. I'll look these up immediately! Thanks!

Doh! I didn't read it clearly the first time, I thought you meant you needed replacements for your STi and were looking at his for replacements.

It's Friday and my brain is asleep.

I know both tires come in 225/45R18, not sure about the other side. They will probably be a bit more expensive for 18s. the price I quoted was for 17" replacements for an STi.

No worries. I had no idea they made the 615s that large. Sure enough, they do, although they're about $160 per tire. Still better than the $250.

<-- I don't have an STi yet<and unfortunately="" i="" don't="" yet="" have="" my="" sti=""></and>

Just so you know, you certainly don't have to go with 265's in the rear of that thing, I just turned in my boxster S a month or so ago, and I put 255's on the rear with no negligible difference.
