Default Someone stole my Mt. Bike tonight **UPDATE Replaced

Any advice?

My roommate was driving home and saw a bum riding 1 bike and pulling the other in his hand. He didnt think anything about untill he came home and saw our garage was wide open. Both his and mine are gone. We searched the city for about an hour and a half. Called the police to file a report. Going to the bike shops tomorrow to let them know if someone trys to sell it to them. Anything else we can do?

Pretty much hopeless I am guessing. I have renters insurance which may cover my bike, but it is a 2001 and I dont have a receipt for it. Bought it with a credit card back in 2002 so we might be able to get an old bill or something. Other than that I am tapped for ideas.

As for the roommate I think he is screwed.. no insurance. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Sorry to hear that, same thing happened to my parents. They took off with my brothers Slayer and almost got another one. How much is your deductible?

I would keep my eye out on craigslist and ebay. Although, if hes a bum he most likely doesn't have a computer, unless he stole one of those too.

what kind of bike?? most renter's insurance only cover bikes up to $1k; before i sold my race bike ($9.5k retail), i had to purchase a rider (i think thats what its called) to cover the bike from theft or damage in a crash. if you need a receipt and cant find it, let me know what kind of bike it was and i can make up a receipt for you. sorry man, i would die if someone took one of my rides.

Thieves are horrible...and your buddy probably feels like an idiot. Next time you see a "bum" with 2 nice bikes...maybe stop and say "HEY that's my bike!" and see how they react... If they take off fast, you know they were stolen and you should follow while calling the police. If he just looks at you and wonders if you're crazy, then maybe they're his bikes. Usually a late night rider with 2 bikes is stealing one of them though.
