It's nice not to hear too much noise on Saturday mornings when we wake...

But, on the downside, there's not as many restaurants and markets here as you'd find in the So. Bay, commuting on 580 is a nightmare (I commute to Walnut Creek - the DubCee and my wife used to commute to Milpitas) and my wife's not going to be able to find a job that is going to pay as well as it would without it requiring her to commute (which is why we've chosen for her to stay at home and care for our children for now)...

On the up side, your wife is able to stay home and raise your kid(s). 580 only truly sucks in the morning and you can always take Marsh Creek outta' Clayton for a fun commute home. Its not as crowded in Tracy as the South bay which means driving around town isn't stressful at all. Taquiria's are everywhere. Its 1 hour from SF and 1 hour from Sac and 1 hour from SJ and 2 hours to Skiing and Yosemite Its a small town where you can run into your neighbors regularly and smile and wave. grambo can stand outside of Tiger Kung Fu in the evening and watch you drive by on Grant Line and its not Milpitas.

i think the rental car should be something comparable to the STi so as not to interfere with the level of driving experience that you are accustomed to... maybe an elise?

i don't think that enterprise has one of those

i wonder what the repair shop is going to say when they see a 3" scratch
"here's a bottle of touch-up paint"

Very true, very true...

I love the taquerias around here! We used to go to "the taco truck" in Alviso all the time. Now we don't have to. My daughter also has a brand new school in the Edgewood community she's been going to for the past year.

Marsh Creek out of Clayton huh? I'll have to look into that. I love all the crap that gets dumped on 580. Just the other day a car ahead of me kicked up a steel plate (looked like the ones you bolt to the underside of your truck for the roll bars). It then proceeded launch itself at the front of my car. It sounded like someone took a bat to the front of the car! Turns out it slammed into the lower lip, leaving scrapes, gouges and it bent the lip back with enough force to crack the bottom and slightly bend the metal support behind it. UGH!!!

Is this alternate route more than the 48 mile commute taking 580/680? OT, the mayor of Clayton is one of my employee's father!

Also OT, do you work at Tiger Kung Fu? My wife and I always talk about signing up for a self-defense class.

on my way home from work today, 880S... i spot two big pickup trucks in front of me doing a little "dance". didn't think much of it, until i see this complete tread of a bigrig wheel come flying from inbetween them, right into my lane!!! i swear, this was the biggest piece of tire tread i have ever seen. it completely blocked my whole lane. and i came to a screeching halt just inches in front of it (lucky nobody was following me too close), cars passing me on both sides, so i inched my car OVER THE FSCKING piece of tire.... horrible sounds of suspension bottoming out .. but i don't think any damage was done.
drove home high on adrenaline...

those tire treads can do some serious damage too. glad you avoided it.

i was on i-80 in nebraska on in my old car when i was moving out here. i was probably in my 12th hour of driving that day and in that highway daze sorta state of mind when i saw one much too late. i ran over it with the passenger side wheels. well, long story short, the passenger side door didnt open without popping the body work...

brembo brakes and no tailgaters FTW.
