I haven't really heard anyone doing a t-stat in these cars. I know in my truck it is a great/cheap mod too (mine's a silverado, I think yours is a Dodge?) maybe b/c of the turbo, or maybe it's a V8 thing. Anyone talking about it on the yellow elephant forums (I assume there are such things)

Yeah, they do it on the L body-elephants too. Its an old-school V8 thing. T-stat opens sooner, keeping the engine cooler...blah blah blah.
I am sure it couldn't hurt on our cars since they run so hot.
Zerosports makes one so I guess I can buy one then.
Lemme' do a search...

IIRC, when doing a thermostat, you should figure out a way to reprogram the radiator fans also (and possibly some other things). i recall reading a discussion somewhere and some pretty knowledgeable tuner advised against the thermostat, as it's only one piece of the cooling system, and now they don't all work together in harmony, but rather each does their own thing, making it less efficient, or at least less consistent.

there was also the point of which temperature these engines should run at, too "cool" is not good.

but don't quote me on that, as i don't recall all the details anymore.

all i know is that after reading it, i decided that (even in the hot weather we can have here) i was not going to swap out the stock thermostat.

Ehh. It isn't really recommended on anything unless you are having cooling issues. But then, the heat doesn't work well b/c the engine & stuff never gets to the temp it needs to produce heat. I have it just for protection, its like that condom that you carry in your wallet as a kid, you know, just in case .

Carmi-I just wanted to say thanks for lending me the downpipe and GIVING me those gauges and pod. Now that I know that I am getting that stimulus soon, I may buy two 52mm Maddads (Oil pressure and EGT) and 1 60mm Maddad (boost). That isn't to say that I'm not grateful, just that I am very picky and they should come with whole wires and taps and will match the rest of the gauges well. I can give the Autometer's back if you would like. I LOVE the pod though!!
Anyway, THANK YOU CARMI!!!!!

So everyone knows, I put the stock exaust system back on last night and got the ticked signed off NO PROBLEM!
I might swap it back out tonight though b/c it is soooo damn quiet, not to mention that I can't boost.

We can do the rest when you dont look like a Chinese Earthquake Victim. The estate is trudging along. I'm in the process of selling the house which, in itself, is a big job.

Friday night is fairly free as is Saturday night so, maybe we can hit it. It shouldn't take but a few hours being really careful. I have to straighten my steering wheel first though. Its been off 1 or 2 teeth since I did the rack bushings...I 've been too lazy to tear it all apart again...lol
