Default Mini Type S

So guys I need a new car, or a car on the side as my DD. I was thinking of going with a mini type S Blue with black stripes. I know a lot of people have biased opinons on this especially since this is an STI site. But I drove one and thought it was absoluletly amazing, especially for a DD. I just wanted to get your guys opinon on getting a type S. I am 20 working at an internship, and trying to find a car with the best gas mileage but also with decent pickup.

Just don't want to look like a ***.

haha

The car is kind of girly but with a little work you can make them look a little more manly. They are a lot of fun on curvy roads and have decent acceleration. You may be fighting a losing battle trying to find a quick car with good gas mileage. It's usually a trade off between the two.

Yeah I defintiley have realized that. But the quickness the type S has is enough for me. THen I was going to do some work to it anyway. I fell in love the first time I drove one, I actually went to a BMW dealer to look at BMW's and they had a mini right there and I thought it would be fun to just give it a shot. An wow, I almost made a trade in right there.

I personally like MINI's, they are a lot of fun to drive. The things that i am not a huge fan of is the "cuteness" and "girlyness" factor, also my skis wouldnt fit. From a handling, performance, fuel economy and fun to drive aspect i think the car is great.

Yeah i love the car, but I think that is what I am worried about even though I shouldn't care what anyone else thinks about the car I drive. Its hard not to care. But i am defintiley thinking about getting one, and moding it...

My brother has a 2005 Cooper S, and it's a nice car. I drive it from time to time when he takes one of my cars to his shop for maintenance. My only complaint with the Mini is the same from my Type R. FWD is not made for performance. I hate the feeling of having to fight the steering wheel when I accelerate out of a turn. The car is quick in traffic, and the SC'd engine has a lot of low end punch. I'm curious to see how the new turbo models perform. Maybe he'll look at trading up. If only the new ones weren't so ugly.

I know what you mean, there are only several colors I like. I was considering doing the blue with black bonnet stripes and getting some black rims. I think it would be a wise investment for me considernig I am still young, and need a car that has good fuel economy.

So why are you getting a Mini? Seriously, like the Miata, the Mini has the image of being a cute chick's car. A budy of mine had a cooper works version for a few years and modified it from there but he could never get over the Chick Car issue and FWD. So he eventually sold it for an LGT and has not looked back.

I`m pretty sure I`ve read some bad things about their reliability but I can`t remember where I read that.

I`d definitely buy one as a daily. I`ve seen some really ones out there.

reliability, reliability, reliability

I owned a Cooper S as a DD for three years and it was nothing but trouble - both in build quality AND in mechanical issues. This brand new car stranded me at the side of the road on at least three occasions -- I remember one tow truck operator telling me "yeah, we tow these all the time!"

When I traded it in I essentially had a brand new car -- the car had replaced electronics, a replaced transmission, etc. etc. etc. -- and I remember having to drive slow to the subaru dealership because otherwise the plastic fenderwells would fall off again

I love the look and feel of the car -- and am secure enough in my manhood to drive whatever the heck I want! But I can't recommend a MINI to anyone. The repair rates on these cars is a dirty little secret.

also, just because the car is small does not mean it has amazing gas milage! well, not if you are driving it right....
