My whole world just turned upside down. Sorry but hope California falls into the ocean. ****tsburg got way too much in this deal too. Anyone who tries to say this was a good deal here in Mass is getting a swift kick in the balls. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

Manny would've been nothing more than a distraction, not to mention the Sox have A LOT of young impressionable players in the club, Ellsbury, Pedrioa etc., we don't need his BS rubbing off on them. Manny was a great hitter, when he wanted to play. Add up all the times he took days off, or just played half heartedly, in my mind its not worth it. He's been up and down since 2003 when we put him on waivers and nothing came of it. We should have dumped his ass then. In retrospect, look how great it was when we got rid of Nomar! We wond the damn world series that year. Sometimes teams and players just have to go their seperate ways and I'll take a player thats willing to bust his balls for someone who's poison in the clubhouse. Now lets take a look at Jason Bay. He's 29, much younger than many, making what 5.7 million this year to Manny's 25(ish). No brainer, ya I know we eat 7 mill. of Manny's pay this year. Also his numbers are very, very close to Manny's. Almost identical, not to mention he was the damn rookie of the year in 2004. The downside of this for the sox is that they missed a great oppurtunity to get a mid reliver from the pirates in the deal. We wanted him, but they wouldn't throw him in the deal and we NEEDED to get rid of Manny. The Pirates made out like, well, Pirates in this trade I think, but the Sox didn't get beat as badly as some may think. Manny was never a "leader" out there anyways. As a hitter people might have looked up to him but not a role model. Leave that up to Varitek, Papi and Lowell to lead these younger guys, not someone who likes to hear himself talk and knows nothing about "the bigger picture" As for Manny, so long buddy. Take your trade and your money and head to the Dodgers whos club house is a mess, in a city that is nothing like Boston and have a wonderful last 2 years, because frankly I don't see you playing past the 2010 season just so you can have your "Peace in Mind". The sox are leading the wild card race and I doubt picking up a better defensive left fielder with almost the same numbers as the player he replaced will have a negative affect on the sox. To add fuel to the sox playoff fire, the majority of their remaining schedule is at home. Where they are 37-16, 3rd best in the majors. As for your statement about the white sox, ya they'll probably be in the playoffs too, as long as they don't CHOKE like they did last year! | |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | This Manny thing is terrible for the Sox especially if they miss the playoffs. Morale is already down. This is by no means an upper by picking up Bay. The management did what they needed to do and will look ahead. I think they understand that the only way we get into the playoffs is if the pitching does most of the work. Nonetheless, it still is great to be a Boston fan with everything that has happened. |
