My gf's parent's house has a driveway that sits at a 70* angle or so, and I have to CRANK on the e-brake and leave it in gear for it not to move.

I only park in gear when on a hill. I also turn the wheel so that the car will go towards the curb should the ebrake fail.

In gear and e-brake every time. If nose is uphill, i.e. car will roll backwards, I put it in reverse. Nose downhill, put it in 1st. Don't want to risk turning the motor backwards, but honestly I don't know if that would cause damage.

funny actually.......

E-brake is simply a metal wire pushing two pads to hold the "entire weight of your car" how can it fail?

Wire can break
The car could be put in motion by strong winds and once the car is rolling your SUPER ebrake is going to do nothing.
The car could be put in motion by someone "tapping" you from behind OR front.
Someone towing your car can break the wire (neutral FTW now your car is a FREE machine!)...
etc etc etc

In conclusion, the e-brake + neutral parking is simply FAIL. One of my cousins almost killed herself when she had to go chasing for her car which BTW ended up crushing her leg between another car.

Parking in gear is 99.9% safer, makes it hard to steal and anyone that drives stick "properly" most likely does so....

now back to your "impossible to fail".... I wonder how my speakers failed, they were also setup properly....

First or second gear. Technically speaking, if you leave it in say 6th, it would be technically easier to push the car than in first, because the engine wouldn't need to turn as much per each actual wheel turn of the drive wheels.

In any case, any gear is enough to keep a car solid on even a hill.

Just the ebrake. I have a TT so leaving it in gears means waiting 30secs everytime I get out. Also in FL as stated earlier, we have no hills.

which is why the DMV hand books states to turn the wheel so that if the e-brake fails it will hit the curb.

handbook tells you what to do in this scenario as well. Turn it so the car rolls off the road
