Default RANT: America's Youth...What Is It Coming To?

So yesterday was my birthday and decided to go golfing with my dad, mom and sister. It was a little pitch and putt type course nothing too crazy. Most the holes were just under 100 yards with a couple 200 yarders. After the first couple holes I heard a loud commotion behind us and it was a group of 3 kids about 14-16 years of age. I was like whatever and kept playing. I noticed as we moved on to the 3rd hole they were just being totally disruptive and screaming and running bag carriers across greens. I'm a pretty patient person and just kind of shook my head and was glad that I wasn't their parents.

On the fourth hole, there was a couple people in front of us and asked if we wanted to play through. I said no thanks, I'm not in a hurry. As we're waiting the ****tards behind us start hitting balls into the protective nets by houses that are on the course. Then they're aiming at wood poles and lightposts twanging them as the group in front of us is trying to shoot. I found this rude asked them if they could keep it to a dull roar. Of course one of the kids comes back with "why don't you make me?!" (If he was 18 I wouldn't ask twice). They settled down for a little bit and thought "wow, that was easy". I was wrong.

This hole was one of the longer holes I only shot it about 100 yards cause it was a dog leg type of hole. As I'm standing by my ball I hear one of them yell something. About 2 seconds later a ball hits about 8 feet to my left and rolls about 5 yards in front of me. I MAY have screamed "are you completely ****ing retarded?!" and they laughed. So I hit my ball on the green and forget about what just happened. No more than 5 seconds later ANOTHER ball hits to my left about 10 feet away. Seriously?! I kicked both balls in the lake nearby and shrugged it off.

Fast forward.

7th hole, two more balls hit where I'm standing on the fairway and this hole is only 90 yards. 90 YARDS! My dad asked if they hit those and I nodded. Now, up until this point my dad had kept his cool and said nothing, which was amazing. He drops his club and starts walking toward them. You could see there face go from to in about .5 seconds. He never told me what he said to them but he managed to make all 3 of them cry after they came back with smartass answers for about 3 minutes. The groundskeeper asked what was going on and he told him and they got banned from the course for a week and a call from the general manager to their parents.

I'm sorry but when I was that age I had respect for those older than me and knew how to mind my manners. I don't know if it's just me but kids these days...omg...some of them need some corporal punishment or something. When I was that age I had the image a leather belt in my head to keep me in line

For a week? I would have banned them for good.

Another bunch of bored teenagers on summer vacation. Another episode of the young and the stupid.

/end.

I miss the days of being able to knock the isht out of your kids. I feared the belt, wood spoon, etc. There's no concequences(sp) for kids now.

Yeah I got the wooden spoon every once and awhile. That thing stung like a mo-fo. I also was a victim of the infamous "mother-vulcan-grip-of-death". You know that spot on your neck shoulder she'd pinch with her whole hand. That usually took feeling away from your legs

Welcome to generation "no consequences". From video games, to myspace, to parents who can't or won't discipline their kids. They have grown up believing there are no consequences to any of their actions. Now that some of them are starting to enter the real world, the awakening will be all to rude, and all to real.

I've had to restrain from smacking a few lately. I am really not sure the best way to deal with them....

I was ready to throwdown but they were like 16. My years of fighting in hockey make me forget about the real world sometimes. It's like they don't even respond to verbal threats or anything it was ridiculous. Doubt their parents even cared.

problem is....how much is too hard??
Some of us here agree that with no doubt, our parents taught us the rules with belts and spoon.... our parents simply punished us and HEY GUESS WHAT? we learned....

However, in the American Culture hitting, smacking, yelling or hitting you kids is at the minimum a crime. Unfortunately there's been plenty of parents that know the limit of punishment while some of them used their kids as punching bags...so where do we draw the line??

It's funny. When I was a kid my parents would whip me and smack me hard if I did something wrong and quite frankly I turned out pretty decent and I consider myself a pretty good citizen. On the other hand, my twin sister were never spanked, hit, smacked or yelled... in addition they got and still get 99% of everything they ask for. How did they turned out?? Rebellious kids, they drink and smoke behind my parents back....and curse at them with words I still dont' DARE say to my parents out of respect for them.

So what's too much and what isn't??
Nowadays if you hear a parent smack their kid.... everyone calls the cops.... because that's definitely a crime...

FoOd FoR ThOuGhT......
DISCUSS!!

I think you handled it very well. No sense in getting into a physical confrontation with some pimple faced teenagers. Then they go cry to mommy and daddy and you look like the bad guy. Probably a good idea to let your Dad handle it. He obviously taught you some respect so it sounds like he had no trouble straightening those kids out.
