I coach a 12 year old Baseball Team and when I hear how some of these kids respond to their parents, I sometimes want to walk over to them and smack them in the head to teach them a lesson. I have one kid who, while we were sitting in between games at a tournament, turned to his mother and told her to get him a drink from the cooler (which was sitting right next to him, an arm reach away) and a blanket from the car so he could sit on the grass, and the fold out chairs to sit on....I felt bad for his mom, so I yelled at him...ahaha...Next thing I know, he is getting everything for himself...haha...The day I have kids and they are old enough to talk back is the day they get a lesson in manors...

I agree/disagree with this. I knew A LOT of assholes when I was in my early teens, but for some reason, they never acted like the ones nowadays do. The kids in my neighborhood now who are in their early-late teens who are the assholes act completely different. All I see is Abercrombie shirts, skinny arms, and backwards hats. Though Abercrombie isn't gangster, it shows that you're a middle-class white kid, and you think you're on the streets of Compton.

The youth have taken a sort of "gangster" turn, and they think they can throw down with whoever they want, whenever they want. In-turn, they act this way towards adults, and others who are older. I'm 21, and I can even see it present in my age demographic. Bunch of kids writing checks that their asses can't cash.

Kids now days are rotten. Bad parenting and leniency is the cause.

When I was young, I was forced to address adults as Mr. and Mrs., always use 'please' and 'thank you' even when I did not mean it, and in general, not be a little prick. I received lots of compliments from parents about how polite and behaved I was, and I did not quite understand why until I look at today's youth to find out how rare it is to come across respectful children.

My sister is 14, she is being brought up the exact same way I was. She knows not to cross my dad. I don't think he would lay into her like he did me but she knows better anyway. Ahhhhh, the good ole days of being deathly afraid of pissing my dad off. I hated it at the time but now I realize it was all for the better.

I'm not for a kid getting beat on just because his dad comes home in a bad mood and then gets set off by the smallest thing. I'm for the kid did do something bad so in return he will experience pain. I got caught sneaking out of my house in the middle of the night to meet up with a girl when I was 14. (my current girlfriend) My dad made it clear about what would happen if I decided to sneak out again. Lets just say I never did sneak out again.

Don't get me wrong. My kid has had to pick herself up off the floor a few times for back talking her mother. It's just that now days you have to be careful who (touchy feely liberal types) sees/hears you doing it or the law shows up and your forever labeled a child abuser no matter what you did. Once that happens it's like being labeled a racist. There's no way to really ever prove your not. My daughter is very respectful and adresses adults as sir or maam and my son who is due in October will be raised the same way. I have a very short fuse when it comes to ishthead kids.

There have always been and always will be spoiled little bastards. Just treat them as adults. They hit balls at you, have them arrested for assault. They act like tards on the course, lodge a formal complaint against them and their parents with the club. Kids act like smart asses when there are no consequences. Provide consequences and you will suddenly turn spoiled little brats into sniveling little cry babies.

Also, I am a firm believer in the idea that you never need to hit your kids to teach them respect. If you are inventive enough with your punishments, violence is unnecessary. Little video game junky kid mouthing off? Break his favorite game in front of him. Snap the CD in his face and never replace it. If he keeps going, spike the console on the driveway. Never replace it either. If you follow through on a few of these threats, kids learn respect quickly.

+1, while I wouldn't rule out hitting my kid (if/when I have any), it should be the last resort after running through all those other things.

Ive been teaching HS math for 12 yrs and its the sh!tty 10% that give the good 90% a bad rep.

And i am forced to spend 90% of my time on those a-holes (10%).

And that is another problem with little monsters, they detract from the kids who are worth a damn. Better by far if you could just expel those 10% and focus on the kids who don;t ruin it for the others.

Yea I'm 18 but I actually play golf seriously so I guess I wouldn't be in their category. My friends are all on golf teams and I respect all golfers. I wouldn't recommend golfing at the smaller courses though because thats where the jackass kids hang out.
