Other than that, all gasoline is the same. I don't understand why people will never get this and they "think" that one brand is better for their car than another. The safest thing you can do is tank up at numerous different gas stations using the same octane. One thing that you DO want to avoid is tanking up when the tanker truck is there, has just pulled in, or has just left. The gas stations tanks are

a) low on fuel which is not good
b) low on fuel which is not good
c) has just stirred up everything that is at the bottom of the tank, increasing your chances for taking in some dirty gasoline.
While i do agree w /A,B,C
I cant disagree with you more as to brands.I believe 100% that C/phillips or rather 76 and chevron stations petrol has something??? that makes others inferior.
I can only go by how my 07 STi has reacted during my un documented test runs using only the 91 octane selections at 4 various stations.

Then to even go further i did not add my usual 1.5 gal of 100 octane - .75 gal [as i was only using half tank fill ups' at around 7 or so gals]for the tests

My STi is on steroids when she gets her 91 from 76.
When she gets her 91 and her 1.5 gal of 100 octane from 76 to meet or exceed her 93 octane tune, she is on steroids and growth hormone .

When she gets the piss from everywhere else, she acts like she just smoked a bong hit and wants to go home and sleep.

i mean if gas is gas, then why can you actually feel the difference? that's what i want to know. If all gas is the same, why does some make the car react differently than the other?

Correct. Additives may or may not make a minuscule difference, but until somebody conducts an actual experiment using numerous brands of gasoline I will be fueling at whatever station happens to be most convenient at the time. If they have 93 octane of course

There definitely is a difference. When getting my car tuned I initially had cheap safeway brand 93 octane in the car. Tuned the car with sunoco and gained 20 pounds of torque. Its a big difference in some cases.

But did you go from Safeway 93 to Sunoco 94? If so, part of the difference was the octane rating and the ability of the car to make more power by adjusting timing, etc.

Weather conditions, etc. can also play a role in making the car feel faster or slower on a given day or tank of gasoline.

No difference in gas? Tell that to the two previous vehicles I owned that each shiit the bed after running HESS gas. The first time I was 17 and had a 71' VW bug...I ran a tank of premium hess gas and it was as if I had filled the gas tank with water. Couple years later I was driving a 98' camaro across country and had no choice but to fill er' up with hess gas (only place off the highway) the car ran like it was only firing on 2 cylinders and I had to have most of the fuel system replaced under warranty...Hess=crap.

I used 93 octane from both stations. Tuning was done on the same day also so the temperature couldnt have been off by maybe a couple of degrees through thke tuning period.

Yup. There are way too many variables to argue. My source of information is not only research and personal experience; I had a client who has owned numerous gas stations since the 60's. A lot of them large, popular brands as well. His advice when I questioned him on octane, different brands, pumps having 1 hose vs. separate hoses for each octane, etc., etc.

"Just fill up at whatever stations is most convenient. It's all the same ****."

True story.

So you started with Safeway 93, drained it and filled it with Sunoco 93 and made no other changes in the tuning, and it produced 20 additional lb-ft of torque? If so, that's great. But are you sure there were no additional changes made?

The only time I ever encounter Sunoco fuels is at the track and then it's usually 94, 100 and 110 products, so I'm unfamiliar with their 93. Sounds like a good product (based upon your experience).

Generally when purchasing gas, I'm using BP Amoco 92 since it's almost impossible to find 93 or more here in Omaha. If a BP Amoco with 92 isn't available, then I typically purchase 91 from one of the Top Tier retailers. Top Tier Gasoline

p.
i hate to break it to you but adding 1.5 gallon of 100 octane wont bring your overall tank octane from 91 to 93 or higher

I will continue to run the Shell/BP Around here because yea, for some unknown reason my car doesn't shake at idle when on those fuel. Plus i would like to stick with fuels where the manufacture at leasts cares enough that they go about researching and putting in their own "cleaning" additive. V-Power/Invigorate/STP-Cleaner

I dropped the car off and went to grab lunch. I didnt notice that I was at a quarter tank. Tuner said to get sunoco and he could get more power. 20 pounds of torque later I didnt argue. Im not an expert in this I just listen to what they suggest on some things.
