Default Help convince brother not to buy salvage title car

My older brother is planning to buy a newer (06+) corolla that has hood, fender, and bumper damage. The car has low mileage and is $4000

He says it's repairable, but will have a salvage title.

I think he's underestimating the difficulty of fixing and registering it. He thinks he'll be able to do it himself buying the parts for under $2000. He says he'll be able to buy the body parts for under $500.

Any help in listing difficulties, hidden expenses with this situation would be helpful.

I think the fixing the airbags (if deployed) would be very expensive alone, and i'm sure there are many more hidden expenses.

If anyone has experience in repairing salvage titled cars, and can give approximate prices for repairs, problems, and obstacles it would be very helpful in convincing him not to waste his money on this car

thanks

Default Re: Help convince brother not to buy salvage title car

My entire family has salvage titles on their cars. My dad's friend takes in totaled cars and makes them like new. Nothing wrong with it...but you really need to know how much damage was actually done before you go ahead and buy a car like that, especially when you're doing it yourself. Hidden treasures aren't always good.
