Wow to drive 134MPH and live! That is amazing!!! The front end of the car exploded everywhere. I never saw anything like that. I feel for the families loss.

For those that don't know, here is a section of Lilypons road. Can you tell what people use this road for?

I too live in Frederick. I reported on this over on NASIOC when it happened (due to it being a WRX).

A WRX doesn't give you the right to drive crazy - NASIOC

Thanks Wolf. I tried to find my original post on here but couldn't. I had some pics of the incident, but we deleted them due to sensitivity. That road pic does not do the rubber on the road justice. Walking the incident scene it was clear that racing has been going on there for years.

wow, after reading some of those comment posts from that updated link, I was really tempted to write my own message. Dont' get me wrong, this is about as tragic as it comes, but it was not intentional, as many prejudiced people there are taking it.

I love how people are always quick to point fingers and call this person they don't know pathetic and a loser because of what he did. Everybody, I don't care who you are, has done stupid things that could cause harm to either yourself or others. That doesn't make it right, but don't condem some person you don't know because they were unfortunate enough to get caught.

Also, am I the only person who thinks comparing a car to a handgun in fatality accidents is completely ludacris? Last i checked, you had to load a gun, point it at someone and consciously pull the trigger...I'm pretty sure that guy didn't take that stretch at 134 with the intention of killing that woman.

Yes, we have all done stupid things and when something goes wrong, although unfortuante, it was to be expected. The mere fact he took the road at 134 AT ALL is an indication of his complete disregard for, well, anything. His poor decision cost someone their life. This is no different than drinking and driving, if you take a risk, you pay for the consequences.

I can 100% understand the anaology. The driver got into the car and made the decision to drive that way. He was shooting a "gun" from the hip, it just so happened that he hit someone. I've been on too many of these types of incidents that involved people doing amazingly stupid things and the most common thing said is "I never thought..."

Yes I have done some stupid things too, but I've never gone that fast on a back road before. Plus this guy is 29 years old, he should know better.

The accident is a testimony to just how safe Subarus are, but it's unfortunate that it could've been avoided all together.

nobody take this comment in bad taste because loss of life is tragic....but

WRX 1
Avalon 0

closing rate between the cars was huge and there's a massive difference between how the cars handled the impact. obviously there are more factors involved in the way things turn out but i'm impressed with the how the WRX held up after losing it at those speeds.

i can impress people with a short burst of acceleration when i get some clear road. STi owners have to have restraint. it is alot of power. i may be younger than most on this forum but i've done my fair share of racing in karts, formula cars, car control clinics and the like. we all know we tend to open up our cars when the road turns twisty, it's part of why we got an STi. they're fast and handle well.

Driving with enthusiasm is a series of calculated risks

Drive within your limits or explore them in a controlled environment

You are the driver...take suggestions into consideration...(the speed limit for example, can be interpreted as a suggestion sometimes)...but the final decision is always yours

Wow. This makes me not want to drive that fast ever again. I've done it but thinking back it was stupid. Showing off cost a family two (or was it three) loved ones, him a 35k car, and much time in jail. He will never get rid of the grief.

This was a stupid mistake that many of us have made (admit it or not) but he happened to be the unlucky one to hurt someone.

I can only imagine that he was drifting all over the road at those speeds with a WRX. They aren't set up to take the same speed the STI is.

Anyone done high speeds in a WRX vs an STI or STI vs a Wingless STI? I imagine there is quite a difference.

You cant call that murder. Murder is done on purpose. Sometimes with a plan, sometimes on the fly, but always at the point of death, said killer wanted that person to die.

Yeah he is a killer, no doubt. But he didnt get into his car and say, i'm gonna ram this car right into the 1st person I see.

thats not to say a car cant be a weapon, cause if you point your car at your neighbor who let his dog sh*t on your lawn and run his ass over, its a weapon. This is not the case here. He was operating a piece of heavy machinery in a way that it was not meant to be operated and that resulted in the death of an innocent person. Due to the fact that he knew it wasnt meant to be operated that way, it is completely his fault and said blame rests on his shoulders.

We have "manslaughter" for a reason. The world is not black and white. Dont get me wrong, I have no pity for the guy. He effed up big time and wasnt the only one to pay for his mistake. But what he did is not murder.

Its amazing how the passenger compartment of the impreza holds up. The A pillars are straight and the crumple zones did the job. On the avalon the a pillar is caved in, which may have a role in the fatality.
I was in a head on collision with an F-350 diesel at 70mph in an outback sport and walked away with just a broken wrist(had a death grip on the steering wheel as we collided.) Looking at the car afterward you could see that the crumple zones gave way, and the engine dropped down. The interior of the car was perfect except for the airbags were deployed. The lady in the diesel had way worse injuries than me, and was rushed to the hospital(broken leg and neck). I refused the ambulance and got a ride to the clinic to get my wrist looked at. The next week I bought my 05 rs.

The passenger "box" was essentially undamaged. The worst part was the passenger side rocker panel/A-post separated about 6 inches, but no intrusion.

In my line of work it is AMAZING what people call the ambulance for nowadays. After an impact like that though, depending on how your vehicle looked, I could see getting transported to be looked at once the adrenaline wears off. Lots of closed head injuries go unnoticed and refused after a collision with anything. Glad you walked away!

Good points have been made about this incident. It is a tragedy and a PREVENTABLE one. I hope, especially some of the younger members, take this into consideration when driving. Nothing wrong with wanting a car like this, BUT get a little time ebhind the wheel under your belt first. You often don't get a second "life" when something goes bad on the road and knowing how to handle those situations (and avoid them) comes only from experience. I have seen things that I would love to forget and more often than not, it involves youth and inexperience.

Again, stay safe and keep it on the track!

I dont believe it can be called murder. People do risky, stupid things everyday that can possibly kill others but that was never the intent, and I doubt it looked like a terribly unsafe activity before he decided to do it. I doubt this guy ever would have chosen for this to happen. He just ended up using risky behavior at a time that ended up being very bad.

I didnt catch exactly what happened, but Im guessing he T-boned her. Maybe she was crossing the road, or pulling onto it and he expected her not to. Old people do things like that.

Also, my nearly wingless STi handles the straightaways at high speed just fine. I would imagine a WRX would as well. The curves, Im not sure about.

There are many of us who like to drive fast to extremely fast on occasion. Key is to do it very carefully. Intersections are not the place.
