Default Drove in a GTO 6.0 today

I was at Home Depot and as I'm about to leave, a clean GTO pulls up right next to me to park. As he get's out, first thing he does is smile at my car and give me thumbs up We started chatting about cars and since I've never driven in the GTO before and he's never been in the STi, we decided to take eachother for a spin. First impressions are that his power was much more linear, and butt dyno feels the strong pull. His GTo felt more powerful than my STi (stage 1) as it should with 400hp (?).Surprisingly though, he said that he was only pulling low 13's in the 1/4?! His shifting was not bad so I'm a bit surprised. He did mention that he bogged at the launch quite a bit. The car definitly felt heavy and the handling/body roll reflected that. He got into the STi afterwards and right away mentioned how much smaller, lower to the ground it felt. He was very impressed by the power, handling, and overall feel. He asked me if I have more torque than his GTO which I told him no, he's got more. It's just that the power delivery is very different. Overall, I was impressed by the power of the LS2 but that was about it. Inside is bland, car is heavy, and handling was poor. It was nice to have a muscle car guy really appreciate the STi's power and handling. On a sidenote, the last two car guys I've met were both cops (WS6 and GTO)....He kind of smiled when I showed him my V1 and Blinders and said that he has no use for them because he's got the plate

You let a stranger drive your car?
That's nuts.

Yes, we drove our own cars giving the other a test drive. Although he did offer to let me drive his car but I turned the offer down. Even though the chance of an accident is remote, the last thing I need is to mess up some other guys car.

Ya, I drove both the 5.7L and the 6.0L, power is great, but the car is a freaking whale.

Yup, great engine, not great everything else. But if you plan on modding, it can be made a beast and a half.

My buddy has a stock 06'. The best time he pulled at the track was 13.29 @I forgot the speed. It's an awesome car to drive in and it's really comfortable, but it's heavy and doesn't handle well. On a side note..he broke the rear axles 2x's, the passenger glass came off the track, and about 2 weeks ago, the key wouldn't start the car anymore. The thing must have been in the shop 7 or 8 times.

The GTO is definitely targeted at a different audience. I think the GTO does a great job of hitting the target GM wanted it to. Surprise, it ain't the same target the STI is aimed at .

LS1s and up are the best series of engines on the planet. To bad the GTO is just like the Mustang Cobra... They are both fat pigs that run really slow times for the power they are putting out.

It certainly felt big! He did mention that he paid about 28k so I guess price wise, it's in a different class too. That engine was screaming though as it was taken to redline, but what a difference getting into the Sti after that test drive. It made the STi feel even more nimble and razor sharp than usual
