so anyways, BIG advantage with the used bikes that im noticing is the insurance costs...its not even the bike itself so much as to the year

Mi Black Pearl,

I'm glad that you are looking into insurance rates, motorcycles can be very expensive to insure.

If you are set on a 600, you should look into a Kawasaki zzr600. It is classified as a "sport tourer" but it is just a rebadged 2001 zx6r "supersport" bike. (Eric Bostrom won the 2001 AMA Supersport championship with it.) Which means you will get the much lower insurance rates of a sport touring bike. It is also not as high strung, razor sharp, or unforgiving as the new supersports. The seating position is more comfortable as well. It is not a beginner's bike by any means (has ~95hp), but is is better than a newer zx6r, r6, gsxr, etc for learning. You will not be disappointed with the performance of this bike. I think yamaha did a similar thing by offering 2005's r6 as a 2006 R6S. I'm not sure what the insurance rates are on those though.

'07 zzr600

'01 zx6r

yeah, insurance included with all the costs is definitely considered for me because i dont want to make it that selling the quad was a mistake due to its cost of finding a place ride and whatnot

im not saying im set on a 600...im just saying that they rated the fz-6 as a perfect beginner bike which someone has yet to still trash or comment from being on my list of choices that i apparently did so bad in putting together-lol, so thats why i brought it up.

viper, nice build by the way...it's nice to see someone that passionate about something they love

I got my first bike last July. It is a Suzuki DL 650. Take a look at those. Nice upright sitting position and very reliable. They have been around for a few years and you should be able to find a few used ones. Not a flashy bike but it's sorta like the Toyota Camry of the mototrcycle world.

I have narrowed my list to two bikes: Buell Blast and the Ninja 250r. I am going to and look at the bikes this weekend. Does anyone have any insight on these two bikes?

They're both not bad bikes although the Buell Blast isn't my cup o' tea from an aesthetics standpoint. Buell spent a lot of money to improve their reliability over the last several years.

I think it primarily comes down to what you want in a bike: touring or sport. Granted, the 250R Ninja isn't set up as a pure sport bike either. The Blast's torque and gearing will make it easier to cruise around on.
