first of all CALMAX mr. viperguy...sorry that im not too informed with the motorcycle world jesus christ. "its a ducatti". go for a ride or something and just chill off, damn

and to the all knowing 300hp@6krpm, right cause i've been saying this whole thread that i want a 600++ cc bike. thats what THIS whole thing is about. please, read before you post. btw, ur stats are wrong

honestly, if ur just here to start something with me because im young and trying to get into the motorcycle world, then just save your energy and time with making ridiculous comments that have absolute no meaning to this thread and simply are a matter of seeking a disturbance. and if it continues, im going to have to call in a mod in here

this is about the MOTORCYCLE. sorry to those who actually are giving good advice and being modest about it all. i appreciate that as we are all not as informed as others may be for a particular matter.

so its a week or two away before i take the course and grab my license meaning im really hunting down now for the perfect bike for me. im almost completely set on a suzuki drz400 but also have the yamaha fz6 and daring a gsxr600 both on the back of my mind. i like how the 400 is extremely light compared to the others making it really easy to maneuver and handle around but just a lil worried about passenger transport/comfort.

I got my license last summer and my buddy is gonna let me ride his drz400. I am stuck between a motard and a street bike, but the drz400 sounds pretty awesome. Good luck with your decision!

I have a 03 SV650. I love the bike, it is very forgiving and has plenty of power. Oh yeah and cheap insurance!! Here are pics of mine

If you decide to get a SV all 03 and up are fuel injected You can't go wrong with the SV its a great beginner bike with plenty of room to grow.

that looks like a supermoto version. If I had some more maturity I would have bought a bike by now. Everytime I see a sport bike drive by I start drooling

It's a tough choice, for sure. I'm looking also, trying to find an appropriate first bike. Something that won't bore me to tears in a few months, but not so powerful that it either gets me killed or at the very least impedes my learning. One upside of the so-called 'starter bikes' is that they seem to hold value very well. Get one that's a few years old, drive it for a couple years, sell it for a few hundred bucks less and pick up the one you really want.

Anybody have experience with the H-D Sportster? I keep looking at those. Not too expensive, and it's the style I like (no sport bikes for me, I'm too old and breakable, my invincibility shield wore off 4 years ago ).

Touche . But I think a cruiser is somewhat less likely to tempt me into doing something abusrdly stupid. I probably couldn't resist if I had a liter bike. That's why I can't buy myself one .

The DRZ is nice but if you plan on doing more than say 30 min it will not be the best choice. Actually I don't know of may sport bikes that are comfortable after 30min - 1 hr. I had dirt bikes but the SV was my first road bike that was in 03 I am still riding it and enjoy it every time I get on it. The power is good and the sound is great. The SV has a V-twin so it has a lot of torque. One advantage is if you are not in the right gear going into a corner it will still have plenty of power to pull through. I put different handlebars on mine which gave it a little more of a aggressive stance and better handling. Also there are l ton of mods you can do to make them handle better, go faster, look better.

As for the Harley Davidson. I have had friends that have had all kinds of HD's including a neighbor who works for Harley and hey all seem to have sold them for other bikes due to either power, comfort, they shake the crap out of you, or reliability issues. I would look at the Suzuki Boulevard series or a Honda VTX if cruiser is the route your looking for.

That's a good point, thanks for the tip. I've been restricting my search to 2005+ sportsters, as I believe they changed the motor mounts to better isolate the engine. I'm definitely looking at all sorts of cruisers, though. The H-D appeals to me, but I'm far from being decided on it.
