Default Anybody have laptop insurance?

There is a laptop at best buy I've been eying for awhile, but it's expensive. More money than i wanted to pay, so if i pay what i consider a small fortune, i want to make sure i don't get it home and turn it on and it stops working after awhile for whatever reason. I've heard how crappy HP support is, so my question is: if i buy the additional protection plan for my laptop at best buy, am i totally covered? And how does it work? Do i take it in to a best buy store or what?

I've though about insurance, but not for warranty stuff -- for that I have AppleCare, which is more than enough. What worries me is if I spill a pint of beer into it and destroy it .

HP support is actually one of my favorites to work with. Laptops are one of the few items that I would think about buying an extended warranty for. I work on computers everyday of my life too. They are just expensive to repair. Here's what you want to be sure of. Make sure that with this warranty the LCD screen is covered. This is going to be the most expensive item to replace if it goes/breaks. Also make sure accidental damage is covered. Spills are the most common problem with laptops. Unless you are VERY lucky, when you spill something on your laptop, it's a mess. I have one sitting beside me that would require about $400 just in parts to repair from a Pepsi spill. If you're looking at getting an HP, call them and see if they will offer you an extended warranty also and compare their price vs. best buy. Also, if the laptop is more than you really want to spend, do you really need everything it has?

I was at best buy the other day and noticed they had lojack for laptops. I believe they were selling it for $99, which isn't bad since it's a one time payment kind of thing. You should look into that.

What model HP is it and, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it run total? My reason for asking is normally you should be able to find a better deal for a new HP online than from a major retail chain. Maybe if it's not too late and they offer refunds on them, you could get your cash back and spend less online and use the extra savings if anything were to happen. I have never been the type to buy the extended coverage either. One more thing, check the box and see how long the HP factory warranty is(which is free). Chances are, if it's a year or more, parts and repair costs for your model may drop by then. Good luck with it either way.

I use HP computers in my workplace and I have had no problems with them as of yet. If you are concerned about the longevity if the laptop then I would suggest purchasing an extended warranty. Do keep in mind that the manufacture warranty is for a 1 year period and that is usually sufficient.
