After reading this thread, I ran some Google searches and found some articles that it may be $300 per person and $600 for couples. But I couldnt find anything solid that said it would definitely be those amounts.

We shall wait and see.

Bush is spending more than the US is making, kinda like living above your means. No different than running CC debt because you don't have the cash available. Basic economics say you cannot borrow yourself out of debt. Sooner or later, it has to be repaid with interest, very expensive money! On the news last night, they were saying the US debt is $9.2 Trillion, up 33% since he took office. Think how much interest is being paid on 9.2 Trillion dollars. That's money which is leaving your country.

Just my opinion...

For whoever is interested there is a very good paper that was released in January that was written by two economic proffesors. It is called the "Hamilton Project" and is a great read if you care about that junk.

Being an economic major I don't agree with this at all. The plan is to go out and give each person $800 to persuade people to go out and spend more money to boost manufactuering blah blah blah to avoid a recession.

Now look at what will really happen. The lower class will probably spend the money on poor decisions such as there daily fix or things for their families that can get them by for another month or two (consisting mostly of diapers and wipes and what not). The middle class will pay off credit card companies seeing how they've probably racked up a good amount over the holidays. Lastly the upper class will be smart and throw the 800 in the bank for their personal savings.

So exactly how does this push the economy up? It doesn't it just puts America in a bigger hole.

The best government is one that governs the least. I think they need to take a step back and maybe see how they got themselves into this mess and correct those things before singing away plans that will throw the country into more debt only to climb back later.

Bush probably could really care less on how things will turn out he's out of office next Jan. anyways. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the markets dive and the fear of recession. I'm sure the banks are hiding a lot more than what they are publishing on their earnings and debt.

I am not a welfare case. We need less government with less power, spending less money. Don't take my money and spread it around like it's some kind of gift. That's my money, and I deserve even more than that back so you will not hear a word of thanks from me.

Also, I don't just spend money because I have it.

That said, I do have about $2500 in my big-boy fund that really wants to be spent on some BBS RGR's

In 2001, the govt. did the same thing. I think I got $300 in 2001.(this was pre 9/11). If you make over $110,000, no check for you.

I know the Dubai citizens get 800 EVERY months.

I know a few in college that did but they also couldnt drink (arab/muslim thing) so they would order a bunch of redbulls and get drunk on that at the club/bar. hilarious.

Although id much love the 800 dollars being the broke college student I am, being a business major and taking all the economics classes I know it wont help anything.

Sooner or later someone will have to pay for it as explained earlier. Politicians are always afraid to raise taxes for fear of losing votes but that is what will pay for the debt we are in as a country not giving us 800 dollars. Look at how much a lot of these European countries pay in taxes I forgot the exact number but I think it was nearing 60% on income taxes(correct me if im wrong).

But i doubt any politician in my lifetime will fix this or i will see the imminent depression coming so ill take the 800 dollars. And id like Springs+sways+powdercoated rims.

The difference there is that Dubai is sharing resource revenue(profit) with it's citizens, not borrowing the money from the global market. The $800 dollars is one person share of the profits earned by the country which is exactly opposite to what Bush is proposing. I heard a couple weeks ago that Russia is sitting on more cash than the US federal reserve, solely due to being an exporter of $100 oil. That alone should scare the US population.

The smart money will be used to pay off personal debt, which is money that's been spent, but not earned. Saving is money earned, but not spent. This isn't rocket science, look out for yourselves because this is going to get ugly before it turns around. Duck and cover.
