Actually it was World Superbike and not GP. A rider in front of him grenaded his engine and spilled oil all over the track. Something like 7 riders went down if I remember correctly. It was a while ago so I might be remembering wrong, but I think the rider you showed actually was unconscious and that is what saved him from a bike to the face.

The bike clips the back of his helmet.
