I always watch this video, that Supra sounds sick, plus the echo during the burnout made it even cooler.

OT: I dont know anything about transmissions, but why does that supra sound like it has one gear? Automatic?

almost sounds like the supra has a powerglide. the track is not downhill either i think its just that the runout goes uphill creates that illusion.

Define powerglide. I know it's an automatic transmission with 2 speeds, but exactly how does it work, is there a clutch, etc?

its straight auto. the thing that makes these drag trannys different is the the high stall tq converter. this basically means when he pushes the gas the car isnt going anywhere till a predetermined RPM ie.4500rpm before movement. when he stages he either applies brakes with left foot or uses a line lock which locks the front brakes only. then push the gas to load the tq converter and when the light goes green either remove foot from the brakes or drop the line lock lever and *ZING* youre gone.

someone correct me if there are other methods for this.

^that is something that is banned at most tracks. they used to do that with muscle cars to get around roasting the tranny with the brakes at the light or leaving at low RPMS. once people started catching on to the trick they had alot of problems with fluid suddenly appearing on the tracks. the cars with this fluid appearing also had a weird habit of being pushed off the track soon after.

Automatic Supras are definately sick, but I LOVE to see the 6 speed guys go out there and tear it up. Go on YouTube and look up a guy named Ryan Woon. I used to hang with him when I lived in Phoenix. He has a 1400+whp 6 speed Supra w/full interior (+/- 3600 lbs) that run mid 8's.
