Not that it matters, but that car is a 'normal' GT3.

You are correct, that's my mistake. I knew it when I was typing my message, but forgot to change the title.

Also, most of the Porsche guy are saying that he spun cuz he let off the throttle at the absolute spot on this track where you shouldn't let off, as well as a little too much correction apparently..

He tried to fix it way too much. You can see the back end of the car get loose, then he paniced. I don't know why you would let off there either, looked like a place to stay on it.

It looks like he simply ran out of talent in the middle of the turn (it's happened to me before....but thankfully there was no crunch at the end).

With the rear weight bias in the 911 it's important to keep the power down in a corner like this in order to keep the rear-end from starting to come around.

Had he had more experience, he probably wouldn't have made that mistake.

I read about this at Elisetalk yesterday.

Bottom line, he lifted, unsettled the rear end, and you know the rest.

A good post from that thread about staying on the throttle:

The first thing your experiences teach you is if you're going in too hot, all you have to do is keep a steady throttle and safely drift wide. That's why it's critical to start slow (underdrive) and gradually add speed after your lines are perfect and after you actually have lived the physics that you've read about a few times. After just a handful of trackdays (and quite a few autocrosses) I have always been able to tell exactly where I'm going to end up from before I even hit the apex.

BTW, there is one other way to create oversteer in addition to trailing throttle and on throttle. You can cause oversteer by adding too much steering input or increasing steering input too suddenly when the car is nicely planted in a corner. If you do something like that when going in a straight line, you just plow like a John Deere. But if you are mid corner and do it, you will likely create a very sudden snap-oversteer and it's by far the most difficult kind to catch.

The moral of this video is not that this guy drove the wrong kind of car - as nice as it might be to believe we got uncrashable cars. The moral is that tracking is never ever safe and the best way to increase safety is through sound methodologies. Here's a checklist:
1) read and understand driving theory (this includes which input does what as well as why smoothness is the key to the universe)
2) practice advanced techniques in a safe place place (like most AXes)
3) underdrive at hpdes until your line is consistently perfect
4) slowly progress with more and more speed and adjust your braking points as needed.
5) remember that if your car starts to feel unstable at any point on track, you are probably starting to either mess up your line and/or driving too fast to still be smooth. Work on line and smoothness until the current pace feels stable again and then possibly add more speed.

As Jenkinson said - racecar drivers rarely have accidents except when they're surprised. More experience reduces the odds of being surprised and also improves the quality of your instinctual reactions when you are.

A good post from that thread about staying on the throttle:
He definitely lifted and then over corrected. That last quote has some very good advice. Its a reminder that you shouldn't try to drive 9-10/10ths unless you can afford to crash it.
