Holy crap, I still need to watch this race on TiVo. But that was a horrifying crash. Thank God they build those cars to be able to withstand those kinds of collisions now. 10 or 15 years ago a crash like that in Formula One very well could've killed him.

No mention of a broken leg here.

My favorite quote:

"We have 1,049 people dying in traffic accidents every day around the world and that is too many. So I think an accident like Robert's shows how much safer cars can be and what you can get away with."

No broken leg. He's actually on day-to-day for the Indy race.

They said broken leg during the broadcast. At the time, a broken leg sounded pretty good after watching that crash, which they showed over and over again.

they recanted the broken leg deal a few hours after the race ended. all i could say as i was watching it live was "oh my GOD, oh my GOD he's dead" after seening senna do the same thing at Imola several years ago, i thought for sure he was done.

thank God he made it. time to count his blessings. the question is, will he be able to get back into the ****pit, and if so, how long will it take him to get back to race pace.

These guys know their job description. My condolences go out to the guy and his family, but he knows crashing is possible when you fly down straights at 200 mph in a fully carbon fiber car, and make 30 mph turns at 70-80. He'll be fine, and get right back into the ****pit. Schumi crashed plenty of times, never kept him out of the ****pit.

Kubica is a great driver, I suspect he'll bounce back just fine. He may just kiss his girlfriend/wife with a little more meaning before each race.

That is true to a point. But, in a world where people don't have time to eat breakfast and put on their make up BEFORE they get in the car, I highly doubt they are willing to spend 5mins to strap themselves in. Not to mention how many people would be willing to ruin their hair to wear a helmet.

Also, last time I checked, my car isn't made of a carbon fiber monocoque chassis.

Kubica Crash Exceeded 75Gs!

The deceleration at the moment of Kubica's 143mph impact againt the concrete wall was one of the highest ever recorded in F1.
