Very true. I went through 3 turbos then 4 motors after I put a TD06-20g on it. But you have to admit that when they run right, there's nothing like a boosted rotary.

its not really constant rebuild engine
its jus that the oil seals and the coolant seals sucks
i have many rx7 friends and they have very good performance shop
its call rotary extreme the main owner of the place has 3 rotor turbo rx7 w/ wide body **** is crazy funny part is other workers of the shop after the coolant seals or oil seals they jus yank the motor out and put chevy V8 engine
my god that **** is crazy

it was always the apex seals that blew on me. far as the v8 engine, i think you are referring to the ls1 engine. contrary to what many believe, the engine weighs just as much as the rotary and depending who installs it, keeps that "50/50" weight ratio. not dis-respecting the rotary scene at all, but the rotary engine is weak when trying to make it a DD and have some real power at the same time. which in return the rx-7 becomes even more a high maintenance ***** than it really seems.

Um....so speaking of a 4 rotor mazda.....check out this four rotor mazda with twin turbos. It's pretty much ridiculous.

I am a huge rotary fan! My first turbo experience came on an RX8...not the friendliest of cars to jump into and install a kit, but whatever, it was an experience. But, most people always dis the reliablity of the rotary engine, but I think much of it is circumstantial. For instance, back in the day a rotary engine could last 2 or 3 professional race seasons, which is unheard of! Most normal pistion engines required rebuilds or replacements after a few races. Their reliablity was great due to the simplicity of their design, with only 3 main moving parts, and their love to be held in high rpms all day long. What happened in the forced induction world that went wrong is on mazda, not as much the rotary. Rx7's often times get a rebuild after 60k miles, but much of that can be attributed to the over complicated syqential set up that the engineers rigged. Many of the vaccum lines, hoses and various clamps just simply were to cheap to live past that. So the turbos fail much of the time before the motor. Also, the Rx7s had overlap because of the placement of their exhaust ports, being in the rotor housing. With 2 poorly desgined turbos causing alot of extra heat on an already rediculously heat prodtuctive motor, one can imagine the apex seals got tired faster. Yes, the Renesis motor in the RX8s do have higher compression ratios than the 7s, but the exhaust ports are on the side, significantly reducing the heat that is inflicted on the apex seals themselves. I'm not saying it is easy, but when done right, and I think it will be, the RX8 will make some disgusting power numbers to match the 7 on significantly less boost since in naturally aspirated form it already makes over 100hp more than an older naturally aspirated 13b. The amazing part is is that it also produces 1/10 of the emissions as the rx7 and 100 more na hp! Sorry for the rambling on about the rotary, but I feel that they are often misunderstood and stereotyped and therefore receive mixed opinions. Basically I guess what I'm trying to say in all of this is that the 4 rotor producing that much power from a 2.6 ltr is awesome! I always try to be a little different, and I love my Suby for its flat four!
