Simple fact is no one really knows what kind of person Obama is. You get him up on stage and he says all the right things, extremly charismatic, and can pretty much get a crowd to applaud whatever he wants. Now you get him behind closed doors without any mics and apparently people in the mid-west just cling to thier guns and bibles out of fear.. so is this the real Obama? Something he said when he thought the "coast was clear" and didn't have to worry about offending people. Sounds like the real Obama to me.

Now if you can't tell, I'm a republican through and through. At least they try and give people incentives to be successful in life whereas their counter-parts are taking a more socialist direction with universal health-care and more welfare. Who is going to want to work to achieve the "American Dream" when the government most Dems want is just going to snatch over half of everything you earn and distribute it to people who are content with leeching off of the upper part of society that works hard to have a nice home in a good neighborhood to raise a family and be happy? Of course, this is a two sided coin as thier are people who have benefited greatly from the welfare system as it got them on thier feet to become productive people in society where they can also have a nice home and raise a family. Point is, if you have the drive to be successful, why should you be punished by the government with exhorbanent taxes that just go to some people who don't want to work to achieve anything.

I think people in US in general are (maybe due to conditioning and media) very scared of "socialism". There's always a concept of "I'm not going to pay for some lazy a$$hole's this or that. Where's my incentive to work hard??", and I agree, I am a hard worker and a responsible person, and would not like to pay for some lay-ass douche bag to slide through life on my account. However, that's not what the socialism is about. If you look at most countries (especially successfull, developed countries in the world), they all have social programs, even though the country might be running on pure capitalism. The "social" aspect of it comes as a responsibility to less fortunate members of the society (that can and are a lot of times in a certain situation not due to their own fault) and can be easily illustrated by the family concept - do you cut your grandparents off when they're old/sick and can't contribute anymore??? Do you tell your brother who ends up in a wheelchair that he should go take a hike, because you don't feel like helping him out?? That is not capitalism, that is selfishness! That's the attitude of not caring about anybody other than yourself, while you're doing well. Any of these things can happen to any of us at any point in time. We all drive fast cars and I imagine we're all probably at a higher risk than most of getting into an accident of some sort (God forbid). What happens if you get seriously injured tomorrow and there's nobody around to take care of you? You'd be praying for some kind of health care at that point.
In other countries you don't have to worry that you'll be financially bankrupt if you get sick or injured or are out of a job. And trust me, it's a much more relaxed lifestyle that certainly improves the quality of life.
But hey, US is one of the countries that is populated by some EXTREMELY rich people. And in that situation, you really don't have to worry about health care or anything (when you can pretty much buy your own hospital). Fortunately, the rest, vast majority of people are not that fortunate, and hopefully they go and vote.
On the note of paying for stuff that I don't reap benefits of - well heck, that's happening all over! Most of my taxes (I got the breakdown in mail recently) are going for schools, and I don't even have kids! I could make an argument that why the hell am I paying for some other dude's kids to go to school! So this si an example of a little "socialism" that we already have happening. But hey, at lest it's going to a good cause - the more kids get educated the better decisions (at least more intelligent) they'll be making in life down the road! Hopefully....

As much as dems like to say that republicans are greedy a$$s, its been shown plenty of times that republicans donate far more money than dems to the less fortunate. The difference is that republicans dont think its their right to force everyone else to donate to their chosen charities. The government shouldnt pick who you help and then force you to do so. Giving crackheads with 20 children more money to buy more crack doesnt produce a benefit to society. Paying to educate the future will always be an investment; even if used inefficiently.
