Can someone please tell the dickheads making these stupid ads to explain why there are half the driving deaths per capita in Germany where the speed limit is either non-existent or significantly higher than it is here? I'm not sure how the statistics compare to the UK though. The bottom line is accidents are caused by bad driving not excessive speed. The current speed limits in America are completely ridiculous considering the capabilities of modern cars. American police can keep patting themselves on the back thinking they are keeping everybody safe, but the statistics don't support it. You can say ANY accident is speed related. If I drive head on into a tree going 3 MPH and you could say the accident would have been less severe and easier to avoid if I were going 2 MPH. That computer animation of the car flipping was pretty awesome though...

Not that I don't speed, nor do I think the speed limit should have be increased.

But I think some of the reason why America roads are harder to drive includes:

- Road quality sucks.
- Hwy exits are like every 1 miles, so many slow traffic entering the road at all time
- Too many stupid drivers, cell phone warriors, lazy driver who never use their traffic light, tail-gate...! They all contribute making the road un-safe to go fast..!

You also must be a minimum of 18 years old to get your drivers license in Germany.

Exactly. Take that video for example. Why swerve? Just hit the stupid dog.

I wish the USA would make this a law as well.

Powerful video.... and while it is usually true that "the faster the speed the bigger the mess" they make it seem like "the faster the speed the more accidents" which is not true at all as stated by everyone else.

Bluegold is right. If he didn't swerve for the dog he would have been fine....

also why wasn't the other car braking since the was obviously an animal in the road? furthermore there are some strange physics going on there in a few scenes.

that video should be "the faster the speed, the more inattentive the driver, the narrower the road, the more flawed the driving discipline, the worse the timing, and the more the bad luck/wrong place wrong time/sheer chance of something happening differently..... the bigger the mess"

That being said. Do I think they should take it off the air? hell no. It might not be 100% accurate in it's message but it certainly puts out a powerful message. And if even a few people think twice before doing some stupid driving in traffic, be it not going quite as fast as usual, not passing that guy on the shoulder, not blowing that stop-sign, not trying to read that text while going around the bend at 60, etc. etc. then I think it is successful

Am I correct in stating that in germany during a drivers test the instructor will place a matchbook behind a tire on a hill and make the driver engage the clutch and drive up the hill with out touching the matchbook?

Either way, I am also never kissing my wife on a stone wall next to a highway evar!

Yeah, I'm not really suggesting a significant increase in the speed limit without other changes. The whole system here is stupid. On the freeway we would need the no passing on the right rule. We would also need better driving training and more stringent rules about what cars were allowed to be on the road. Not only would we get where we were going faster, cars would be able to be more efficient (in many cases) and there would be A LOT less traffic since cars would have to be on the road for significantly less time. The police would actually be able to spend their time doing useful things too. They wouldn't have to cause accidents by clogging up the emergency lane because they pulled over a car that is safe at 160MPH for going 78MPH.
