If you are, I apologize as a taxpayer and citizen of this country you fight and serve to keep free. Our politicians have failed you miserably.

That is quite sad that Ft. Bragg cant keep up Barracks while their troops are deployed.
I used to live in barracks like that when I was stationed at Ft Bliss, TX back in 1994. They were old barracks like that until they built us new ones.

That's heaven compared to the way we lived in Iraq when the war started.

^I cannot imagine how bad it was over there. Glad you came home in one piece and thanks you!
But we've got senators and congressmen giving themselves secret-fat raises and using tax money to take vacations while you guys are living in rat's-nests...
It pisses me off and embarasses me as an American.

I don't think that it's that bad, granted I've seen worse.. Yeah it sucks, but you get used to it.

wow that was frickin horrible. our tech school dorms (air force) were as bad if not worse when i was at sheppard afb for about 9 months... you should see how the military money's spent. in the damn chow halls, 46" plasma screen tv's are used to show the menu for the day, meanwhile we're out on the flightline trying to fix planes to go drop bombs but we've run out of money and cant get the parts we need... ridiculous. im sure the other services have it worse cuz we are pretty pampered in the air force.

Hahaha.... I remember those days! If you think those are bad, look at the ones in germany! I lived in a german WW2 barracks for a year until I moved off post. My gf's dad let me say in a hella nice loft at their house. He even let me say there for free after I broke up with his daughter!

its so true I know the air force spends mad money on plasmas to show menus and for slide shows in hallways that no one looks at but like uptheundagrnd said maintenance troops like I cant get cold weather gear or new boots or gloves and i have to fix planes rain shine hot or cold. Sometimes i just want to have the general public follow me around for a day. Our job is national security but we are given a shoe string budget. Its like the blind leading the blind. sorry about the rant

I like that they show the toilet seat many times. How'd the seat get like that? It's not from it being old and needing to be replaced. Some destructive jackass broke it.

Hey, for me I would love to just be back in the states period. Im on my 3rd deploment over here in Iraq in 5 years(this one is a 15 month tour) so yes those barracks suck but atleast its on U.S. soil. Its sad that the money dosent go into fixing the old barracks but It cant when Its all being spent over here. just my opinion!

That's how I see it. There is an obligation to provide clean and safe barracks, that much can't be argued.. but it only goes so far. The soldiers are also capable of cleaning up some of that. Like when they flashed the video of the bunks covered in things strewn about, gear just laying on the floor... there's no excuse for that. Also did they say WHY the toilet was overflowing? Was it neglect or was it because some jackass that decided to do something that CAUSED it?

I want to know the story behind some of those things before I start getting outraged at people. Obviously there are problems that need to be fixed, but is all of the blame squarely on the Army's shoulders?
