connecticut?!? wow, and i thought it was bad and all in jersey (newark, avenue P) >anyone recognize?! people getting shot over stolen engines and whatnot. im glad tho that its the expected honda racers as being the problem instead of any of our fellow subies (or other higher class make/model drivers) being known for this immaturity. i can understand going for a quick but safely settled run once in a while, just def not something so big and organized like these. if it has to be something big like a 1/4 and or with many spectators, then it should always be done on a professional course or track

* its those giving the bad name that are really ruining it for the rest of us..i love having gone import (especially wit the sti) but hate hearing > "so who/what/where have you raced?" as an initial reaction all the time. thing is, i honestly totally changed perspective going into the sti as i have not found myself even at a traffic stop run or any of the sort for that matter, as opposed to actually observing these things previously back in the day with my first car

the problem is that cops don't know the difference between our cars and theirs.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the squad car... I have to agree many, not all as previously assumed do not know what they are looking at. I have been stopped at a gas pump while pumping gas (I am a 36 year old father and professional) and written a ticket for going 4mph over the limit.

Many police officers (I have a few in the family too) do not see a difference.

shouldnt be called a crackdown... its should be called profiling. had my hood popped 4 times in 2 months all because of the wing and a evo2 catback. the excuse i am being given is, we are trying to make the streets safer. this apparently means pull over anyone driving in a completely legal manner and harrass them cause they are younger and you dont like their cars due to the rep being given by immature street racers.

^ +1 ... thing is tho, i have surprisingly not been pulled over yet with the sti (knock on wood). i stay mostly local around here and it just seems that they actually admire my car because i can be doing a lil over with them not minding (even hiding wit the radar on) and practically already having a excuse for them to pull me over with never having the front plate on. they're more concerned with drunk drivers around here. but yeah, most dont know and dont care, a very marginal amount actually consider being more courteous and respectful to not put us in that category untill we would actually cross into it

do you guys think we stand less of a chance for cops cracking on subies & OEM turbo'd cars? i mean, there is a lot of 'stuff' in there that is stock. do they even knmow what to look for on our cars? [/noob]

thats actually a really good point to bring up .. but there's a whole bunch of issues and ways you can take this .. (less of a chance with who exactly) because with this issue, you can also bring about super exotic cars with their tremendous engines and yet, those are engines are just well "covered" up. the american and european also cover up their engines pretty well too. then there are the imoprts which expose everything. being that imports are so easily modded and attainable, they have been seeing and noticing that trend coming from those that cause trouble and actually grab the attention more so than the other regional makes. so basically we (of the import community) are all already screwed.

now my best guess with the engine issue, they try to look, using random checks, for things that would be obvious to breaking the law such as with emission standards (judging from the exhaust note, seeing an open air filter, a whole bunch of different colors in the engine compartment-lol).

nonetheless, it should be only the driver first and foremost of which they should be concentrating on, although, thats not the case as we have been making clear already.

here in toronto, they have sent a few subies (members from the tsc) for mto vehicle inspection.
basically, at the road side, the officer will write an order for an inspection a few days after. basically, it is enough time to go home, strip the car, go to the mto and pass with no tix. this whole street racing thing is really a concern for the guys playing it safe. STAY HOME & KEEP THE CAR IN THE GHEYrage! heh.

or trying to stay as stock as you can for as long as you can...if you have to mod, go with whats un-noticeable to the unknowing (for example: imho, its like choosing any other exhaust over cobb imho) get a new car if you just need something faster or different. or if your really heavy into modding than get a beater as something for daily use rather than putting yourself at risk with something heavily modded, or just expect to get that attention

thing is, the cops are smart and they put a lot of undercovers out there not only to obtain information or set-up a sting op, but to also actually start challenging those who may assume in looking to race > which could be with anybody as simple as being at a light so be careful!

i wouldnt be surprised if there may be one on here in the forums snooping around! -lol

yeah, i have a lot to say about them because back home in jersey, it really does seem that they were always on to me (from riding my atv, to driving my car, to even running (as in the form of excercising) on the street believe it or not) i do still respect them and all despite how much hate would be accumulated by someone else from all of my experience with them, but i believe that they need to be more willing to understand (which some out there luckily do) rather than trying abuse their power
