I'm all for more Japanese sports cars. I'd like to see a Toyota/Subaru RWD competitor to the s2000. I'm sooooo tired of all these FWD buckets with extra letters on the trunk and these @#$*& "hot hatches". I'm sorry--a sports car is not supposed look like a bread truck! Why why why!?? And AWD is great for all-weather and slicing corners in half, and love the sophistication of subaru's system, but when it comes down to it RWD is just more fun. It's not the fastest around the track, but a RWD car with too much power and not enough computer is the quickest way to scare the **** out of your girlfriend. And that, my friends is priceless. I will slave over getting my STi to oversteer until I've got bars of Irish Spring for rear wheels. My point is roaster, coupe, whatever, I'd love to see the return of the old school Japanese sports car. They still make quality, but there just isn't the sex of the old Supras and Z's.

I had a 2000 2.5RS and I loved how light and nimble it was. That is about 300-400 lbs heavier than what they are saying this car is going to be, and about the same HP. If they make this a RWD to compete with the Miata, I would buy one. I hope they dont try to go after the s2000/350Z crowd, the new supra is probably going to take care of that for Toyota [if they ever actually release it]. I like the idea of a pure, light roaster. Right now the only real affordable option is the miata.

Maybe this will be the next supra? That would be kickass.

no way the next supra will weigh 2200lbs and only have 180hp.

I hope they bring back the 2jzgte.

Yeah, I know there's no chance...but it would still be kickass. something like a 400hp EZ30R turbo would be so awesome.

"...Toyota bought a small 8.7% stake in Fuji back in 2005 and has since supplied it with small cars built by its Daihatsu subsidiary..."

Now I understand why the 2008 Impreza looks so much like a Toyota Corolla. It is a Toyota Corolla.

I really hope it does well. This could lead to more collaborations with great new cars for both companies.

Ultimately though, I hope it leads to a co-developed super car or GT car. Like a Supra STi or something.

I don't know, just wishful thinking. But then again, you'll never know.

Here's hoping that FHI and Prodrive teamed up to convince Toyota to build the P2.

Yes, the P2 would be an amazing car if it was ever put into production, but I can't see it being under 20k, unless they axed the sophisticated drivetrain and electronic controls--but it would still be a great car even then.

I hope it isn't a convertable though (bad for chassis), because I really liked the design of the old ae86 and I think if they kept the RWD, an update of that classic design would be really cool. I can already imagine having one as a second car, it'd be a great counterpoint to the STi.
