huh? 280whp with just a catback and intake?

*edit* nm, it says magnaflow titanium exhaust, not specifying muffler only. That's got to be a TBE to produce 280 whp. But then again, their baseline was 26x, a good 20 hp high compared to most stock dynos I've seen.

Who cares what it reads as a value. The only thing that matters, IMO, is that you can get a before and after and measure the change.

EDIT - forget that - I see what you are getting at - seems too high a value for a TBE. Yeah I agree, there is no way that car is actually putting down 280whp.

why don't you guys believe the numbers? the sti ecu does wild and crazy things with ignition timing. stock sti dyno plots will go from 238-278 hp depending on timing, fuel used, and altitude. and no it wasn't a turboback. only a 3" titanium catback. new from magnaflow. thanx for the #'s and info Robert. here is turboxs' stock and tbe dyno #'s http://turboxs.com/turboxs_tech_101.htm

And more importantly, what dyno the car is on. Dynos read higher and lower... comparing a Mustang Dyno vs. a Dyno Jet will show around 20-30 whp difference. The low side dynos show the STi in the 220 whp range while the high reading dynos are in the 250-260 range. The only way a dyno should be used is a tuning tool. So, if that magazine is taking baseline dynos of those cars on the same day, installing the mods, and running the dynos again on the same day, then I think they can not only see what the modifications have done to the car but they can accurately compare the power difference between the two cars.

But if they're on a different dyno or dynoing on different days when the weather is drastically different, then the results are almost useless.

Default Lean on me.....

whoa... wait a sec, what does it matter what whp it is at in the beginning? Look at the change... you're saying we cant get 16whp from a CAI and Catback exhaust? You guys do realize that tuned ESX got 27whp from that same intake ALONE... then add a catback on top of that. Dang I expected the EVo people to not believe this "As the evo could never lose to the sti" but not the sti people (no flaming or bashing on you guys who are skeptical, i just am having this same fight with people from the local boards who think the Evo is the shizzznich and im trying to figure out why people cant see that the before and after is what is important, not the baseline **unless its off by like 50whp or something)... and if the dyno reads a little high, so what, i was using it in comparison to the evo (as they used the same dyno to do the evo parts so no matter how it read, good or bad, it should still give a comparison of mods to both cars). Evo is fully tuned, 22psi, catback, intake, etc and is running 8 whp or so less then the sti still which only has intake and a catback. (it is a catback, i jsut didnt scan that part of it). Also turboxs' turboback claims 27whp, i mean i dont see how this is unbelieve at all... ya their beginning dyno is somewhat high, but still look at the before and after. If you still dont want to belive it, then just disregard it. The magazine is D-sport or D-speed or something, I will go see, i just ripped those pages out and took a picture of them (scanner wasnt working for now).

so basically 32whp vs 16whp ... which is awsome imo. Since we're running 8less psi and 1/2 the mods (and no tuning which is our key player). Anyways... part 2 comes out next month.

Robert thanks for the info. A dyno is a dyno. Even if it is unaccurate, they were both used on the same one.

the magazine is D-sport, previously know as Dragsport. i have the magazine and have seen the numbers myself. all testing is done at the same place on the same Dyno. they have started doing an STi vs. EVO build up series. doing the same type off mods on both cars to see which one gives the most bang for the buck. the STi won round one. its a great read and i am looking forward to next month.

At 22psi this doesn't seem right at all unless AF was done completely wrong or HKS FVcon sux.

Evo is fully tuned
This is what's weird, because if it was really tuned at that boost with those mods it should be pusing out closer to 300whp.
A friend of mine made 270whp with TurboXS catback, high flow cat, intake and AF tuning, no boost controller, everything else stock. Without AF (but everything above bolted on) it made 230whp meaning stock stock was less than 230.

Funny how all of you guys forget the very valuable 500cc more

Doesn't matter. That's the car we bought, there's no exception. Anyways, STOCK... EVO=19psi STI=14.5. Evo ALREADY has a bigger turbo, making less hp, and we have a bigger engine. Who calls for more potential?!?!?! Imagine STI on tuning in that comparison... we might need a new rival.

in the new issue, they dumped the Injen intake and installed a Perrin intake and FMIC, then the Apex-i grounding kit to over 300whp.
