Default Subaru of America Statement on Ltd Suspension

Got this in my email on 10/17 from the guy I've been corresponding with:

"I went from memory originally, in regards to the suspension differences. Just to be sure, I double checked with the Impreza Car Line Specialist here. He is essentially the individual responsible for the existence of the Impreza in the U.S. He confirmed the suspensions on the regular 2007 STI and the STI Limited are identical in every way, right down to the struts.

There may be some minor tweaks from year to year, I.E. '04 to '05, 05' to '06, etc. but the changes would likely be limited to alignment settings and things of that nature, which the end user can easily adjust or have adjusted. For example the wheelbase from '06 to '07 decreased slightly, as a result of a change in the caster settings. The change in the differential type could also impact the feel of the vehicle."

The caster change would cause less stability at higher speeds.

Would you attribute this to the deletion of the rear wing as well??

This is what I was referring to. I think the addition of the front splitter aids w/ stability and the rear lip helps, not as much as the picnic table wing though.

Rcane, maybe your car is out of alignment, my car was slightly from the factory. I already installed my prodrive springs and aligned it, so far its alot better.

Will the change in caster affect handling negatively. I don't know but the specs for the new STIs sound a little "downgradish" to me.
Well...the 07 will have less dynamic camber with less castor. So I guess it could understeer more. I cant believe they're getting rid of some castor.

yea, this doesn't make sense to me either, this is supposed to be for all 07's whether it's an STi or STI ltd.

At speeds above 80mph, yup it'll def. come into play.

I really like the idea of the Limited since I daily drive my STi to work M-F through crap PA inner city roads, but I don't like the loss of performance, even if it is minimal.

My suspension beefs are not bashing the Ltd overall. It's still a monster of a car and the some of the other changes to the '07 are great. The gearbox is better, very smooth. The ratios are awesome and the car seems quicker. I don't know what, if anything, has changed in the engine. The only other thing you might have a problem with on "crap roads" is the front spoiler on the Ltd. It's too low for "rally driving"...

Look at it this way, the minor performance differences just make it more of a challenge and most seem fixable anyway.

Chill bud. A couple swaybars and some better springs and you won't even know the difference. In fact, just swaybars and you'll be a happy camper.

Couple of minor things also listed in the specs from the tech manual that I didnt see mentioned for the perceptions.

They decreased the rear sway bar diameter. Interesting move there.

Not related to handling, but the mention of adding an air injection pump for 07. You buys that have em, is this a belt driven pump or an electronic pump. Not that we need a belt sapping power.

I thought all of the EJ257 Imprezas have had the air pump for the last couple of years. My understanding is that is how they were able to remove the uppipe catalyst.

Electric pump, more than likely only on when the engein is cold to help cold start emissions. Wouldn't it be cool if you could turn it on anytime to help low rpm spool?

I love my limited as much as my '05 even though I'm a bit disappointed with the '07 suspension. Some minor mods will fix that. They're awesome machines. The '07 engine seems smoother and the longer gears are definitely noticeable. That's a performance improvement. At the end of the day, I'll have a better car than my '05.
