Here's the bad snip-it.....

but the killer news for England (and the rest of the world, for that matter, apart from Japan) is that all the latest techy stuff is not for export. In basic terms, the new shape car at Paris with mildly tweaked mechanical package is officially all there is for the UK. Blame the familiar excuses of "emissions" and Subaru's limited R&D power...

DCCD, Twin Scroll.....yup....not for us apparently.

Default Horrible horrible news......

Nothing was explicitly said about the U.S. market and what version of the STI we will receive. However, it's sad that Japan should get the better STI i.e. twin scroll etc.

Only time will tell what version of the STI America will receive...

This is bad news, but I'm not gonna believe any details to the 100% until we see and hear what the Us is getting. I sure hope this isn't the case. If so, I'm sure some of the stuff can be bought and shipped over here for replacement..but that is a pain and might not be worth it..

That's seems pretty explicit to the US market to me. We sure aren't Japan.

I was kinda hoping Worm would jump in here and say a word about it. The only reason I took this as pretty factual was because the UK version has already been announced and this is all right from Subaru. If the UK isn't getting the toys, why should be believe we would. Our laws are more stringent than the UKs.

Well as far as the DCCD, that stinks.

But the twin scrolls, once the STi is here in USA wouldn't there be a way to buy the turbo , header and uppipe from japan and install them on the USA machines? I mean this obviously wouldn't be possible if they changed the dimensions on the new JDM engine but if it is the same engine but different plumbing... Sure it would cost a bit, actually >$2000 but for 200+ ft/lbs at 2400 rpm, that would be well worth it

The only things that may come into play are controlling that new system with our ECU. I'd assume they have to make some serious changes to fuel maps and the like.

There's little doubt it could be done. At what expense.....we may have to find out.

I still don't understand why it would make sense, from a financial standpoint, if your company spends millions of dollars in R&D for a new car and to continue to make the "old" stuff for part of the world??? Could someone explain this logic to me?

I can't think of a good reason other than that they haven't done the research to get the new engine/turbo package to work on our gas, emissions issues, other laws....

Otherwise it will be costing them more to have 2 manufacturering facilities....2 types of turbos/pistons/headers in stock and being produced.

Our more stringent air quality laws, gasoline specs, etc... make a difference, but the U.S. is the BIG market to sell in. You would think that since this is the flagship product in the largest market available Subaru would want to make a really good first impression. On top of this they are already going to have direct competition (i.e. EVO ).
I'm sure there are other internal issues, but I hope that the main technical improvements will be brought over (twin scroll, DCCD). I think it would be foolish not too. :-?

Like I said before, if we don't get any of the easily added or fixed goodies then I will not be spending the money on an STi. I think we need to make it known that we will not settle for a watered down version of an STi. I bet Subaru reads car forums related to their products and might think twice if a lot of people start saying this. Like someone said the US is a big market for Subaru.

It is ridiculous, considering our laws are stringent, but Japanese and European emissions laws are pretty tough..just different.

I agree with you MKIVSupra. I'm in the boat of buying a new WRX STi and I am actually willing to spend the $1500+ to get the car shipped overseas so I can use it for a year in Europe. Crazy, I know. If SOA can't pull through and we get a "less than STI," then I will buy something else..perhaps a BMW since I can get them cheap over here and tax free...then maybe sell it in a year or so...I dunno. I will wait until the car is official and the yays and nays of the car become official...until then I am crossing my fingers!

This sucks. I'm praying for this rather qualified-looking 'rumor' not to be true.

Well, now from what Worm said in the Annonymous forum.....it's looking good for us getting the twin scroll, but the DCCD is probably out.

Who knows......
