Post New 1.5L engine for the impreza

well, its not a rumor, its confirmed that subaru will introduce in september a new 1.5L engine with HP rate between 105-110 that will replace the old 1.6L with 95bhp that is serving the impreza since 93.
the new engine will get 10-15% better MPG and not sure if it will sell in all europe as a entry level impreza or only in israel
since subaru release a statement that they will drop the 1.6L because it is no longer stands on the tough european emission standarts there was pressure on subaru aspecially from subaru dealers in israel to preduce a new engine and if not subaru will lose an important share market
the subaru impreza 1.6L sales in israel per year is about 5000 and its alot.

the 1.6L small cars is very big and important in europe and specially in israel

the evo sales in israel about 50 cars per year and the impreza WRX\STI is about 90-100\year

Are diesels popular in Israel? The next generation Impreza will have diesel engines availible (Although, US will get screwed and probably will not recieve them) These will offer probably better mpg then the new 1.5 and of course ALOT of tq.

yes, deisels are popular in israel, the big market holders in the "deisel department" are VW and skoda, which are basiclly the same brand and the same cars.

in the early 90's subaru was very popular in israel, selling 27000 car a year, which is ALOT here, the legacy sales were strong and so with the squre leone that was a hit.
with the introduction of impreza in 93(which called is israel "grand leone" in order to try to keep the mighty sales that they had with the leone) the quality of the car rosed up and so the trim level of the BUT also the price jumped up,and in the same year that the impreza came here guess who landed in israel---yep,mitsubi****

everybody in israel had subaru,it was "the people car" and there was tons of them, and slowly everybody got sicked tired of them, and they saw that with less money thet could get an ungly lancer or galant with all "D electric equipments"that were in these years, and so mitsubi**** bited subaru sales and stoled the sales crown(from 83-94 subaru was the "sales king" in israel)
they got a galant 2.0 for less money then a legacy 1.8GL(not to mention the legacy 1.6DL that was a really trouble maker, with alot of reliability problems-big car+small engine+3 speeds auto' box=troubles)
from then, its all history, subaru dropped in sales big time, and sadly became a forgatton car in the israeli market, even though it offered a good road manners for its time and great reliability record(the legacy 1.6DL has infected hardly in subaru great reliable image)

the car that put subaru back on the map was the impreza GT TURBO in 97,from then people started to look at subaru in diffrent way, from one of the boring cars on earth to one of the finest driver's car around.

mitubi**** lost the crown for mazda because alot of gear problems they had with their cars aspecially with the carisma, colt and lancer

a few more important points you should know about israel car market:
from 96 untill now mazda is the king of sales selling about 20000 car a year.
car sales in israel is about 150000 a year
here in israel, nobody gives a damm about toyota
just for comperison, toyota sales about 5000 car year and 90% of it is corollas

subaru selling about 7000-8000 cars a year (impreza 4000-5000,legacy 2500 and the forester and outback are the rest 500) even with higher price tags that could easliy match audi and bmw and mercedes(legacy-43000$,STI-45000$forester XT-40000$,tribeca-60000$-yep,we get 170% tax on cars)subaru still manages to improve there sales in israel(in 96 subaru sold 4500 units)

I saw plenty of Lancers and Gallant on Jerusalem streets in 1991. Well, not as many as Leone - they were everywhere! Recall that commercial -- "anashim hahamim subaru konim" (smart people choose Subaru)?

yes,but until 93 mitsubi**** didnt really broke in the israeli market and people were loyal to subaru because subaru was the only japanese automaker that didnt gave up to the arab embargo.(all the other japanese automakers sold their cars from 89 and subaru from the late 70's)(and mitsubi**** didnt really had an offical dealer(as far as i know))
and about the commercial the meaning was "smart people BUY subaru".
now subaru israel logo is:"subaru-the most advance japanese car in the world"-and we all know that they right!!

anyway vz64,what the hack you were looking is israe?,its a warzone overhere!!did you leaved here?

I used to live in Israel from 1990 to 1992. It didn't feel like a warzone then... And it looked like Subaru was a domestic brand.

Well I overreacted, its not a warzone, and surly more safe i guess than LA and CA although israel is'nt the ideal place to live.

subaru was a domestic brand and they can repeat the success if they only offerd a wider range of cars.

subaru should make a minicar that can easily beat honda fit, hyundai gets, and toyota yaris, and if she will make one,her return to the top sales is promised.

and by that i dont mean to their R1\R2 because i saw those two in flesh in car show before two years ago and its looks like those cars came out from toys store and not from a brand that's making STI's,B4 and foresters!
