Something new?

(09:10 Oct. 02, 2002)
Turbo Forester to join Subaru’s U.S. lineup in near future

We were joking when we suggested a performance-tuned Forester should accompany Subaru’s growing line of turbocharged all-wheel-drivers, but it appears we were more than a bit prophetic.

A turbo Forester will join Subaru’s U.S. lineup. It arrives after an STi version of the WRX comes next June, and before a twin-turbo Legacy debuts in the fall of 2004.

The wagon-esque Forester likely swaps its 2.5-liter four for the intercooled turbo four that gives the WRX 227 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque—a significant increase from the current 165-hp, 166-lb-ft Forester. Hmmm, wonder what should we joke about next?

That sounds nice but I think the turbo forester has lower HP and torque number than the wrx; not to mention it is heavier and is equiped with a very civilian suspension, i think.

From Edmunds.com:

"Preview

What Edmunds.com Says: More power, tighter handling and bigger brakes? Sounds like a perfect recipe for an even better WRX.

What We Know: Although there's been no official word from Subaru just yet, the likelihood of an STi (Subaru Technica International) version of the WRX coming stateside looks all but certain. With 261 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque under the hood, this four-door screamer should bolster the WRX's reputation as one of the world's most exhilarating all-wheel-drive sedans. A stiffer suspension, wider wheels and tires, front and rear limited-slip differentials, a six-speed manual transmission and larger Brembo brakes will also come as part of the STi upgrade."

Hope the HP figures are wrong.
