Default south of 300 or north?

the other day i had some extra time so i stopped by a dealership to see the 06's in person as i have never seen the new STI ( not STi anymore i guess ) the dealer told me (rumors and speculation of course) that subaru might bump the STI north of 300 to compete with the evo X...he told me 385. i have also been told however from another dealer( more rumors..yes!) that SOA thought 300 was too much for the street and due to that fact and emissions that they were going to cut it back to the high 200's. however both of these are speculation and probably just a crock, just thought it was interesting that two dealers heard two extremely different plans... just goes to show how little they actually know about the futures of our cars i guess.

Yeah, 320 would be a significant, yet reasonable jump.

One thing to know about dealers is that they are the last to know anything about upcoming models. Don't believe a word most of them say.

I had a salesman tell me my STi was operating at 35% efficiency and all I needed was a chip to get to 85% efficiency. Then he told me about a super nifty suspension that raises the car 3/4 inch at rest, but as the car gains speed it drops lower and lower. He said the suspension is an option on the European STi's.

So much for salesmen at dealerships.

i can gaurantee you that subaru will not detune the STI. why would they?? thats what the wrx is for. however, if we actually see a 385 hp STi, i will get rid of my 06 for sure. by the way, whatever happened to the japanese gentlemens' agreement to limit quoted/published hp in jap cars to 286 hp (hence the evo's underating)??

I can't find i it online right now but I could swear that I read (around this time last year) that many of the big japanese autmakers were getting away from the gentleman's agreement on the 276HP cap.

I don't think the gentleman's agreement ever applied to USDM cars, only to the JDM versions.

If Subaru offers us 385hp from the factory, I'll be parking my new one next to my old one. I'd be all over that like white on rice. Pardon the pun...

I can see Subaru increasing the advertised hp in the name of competition in the NA market. Everybody seems to be offering silly hp these days.

How much hp will the evo X be making?

I've heard that it will be around 320 also.

Either way, I agree that the new STi will get a hp increase to 320.

Subaru has to, in order to stay competitive.

385 hp is also a little high, maybe that is the hp rating for a top secret Legacy STi or maybe that rumored "large bodied" sedan.
