Hate to do it and sound like I am uhh..whats the word.. but I have to bring in the fact that evo comes with about/roughly -1.5 degrees of camber up front - better alignment probably accounts for the handling difference with the tighter suspension, thicker strut bar, and twitchy steering rack.

You know.... it's funny how so many mags rate the EVO higher than the STi. Maybe they should do a long term test on both cars and see which they like better. If the EVO comes out on top, I'd be surprised but who knows.

Man, I wonder if Subaru had just put a quicker steering rack on the STi how it would fare against the Evo in comparisons. Every mag loves its instant feedback and connected feel, which I feel is largely attributed to the much quicker rack (as well as the slightly wider tires and negative camber). Subaru could win these comparos so easily with just a few minor enhancements.

Yeah, seriously. Give the car negative camber alone and the tests become more even, IMO. Kinda silly these mags don't know that.

How much adjustment does the stock camber plates allow? Is there any downside to increasing the negative camber from the stock setting besides tire wear? Anyone have some good camber suggestions?

Not as much as any of us would like

The '04 could get a decent bit, I think up to -1.5. The '05 could get up to -0.8 (Mine could only go up to -0.3). Not sure on the '06, but camber plates are a great mod from all I've read. More negative camber shouldn't cause a big difference in tire wear for street driving. Reduce the toe to 0 all around and this will decrease tire wear. More info is available if you search around the suspension forum.

nice magazine. I love that they release it in pdf... no real surprise on the results. i guess the real comparison will be when the next gen models come out. can subaru compete?

I am not attacking the Evo, just so you know(i actually wanted one but the STI would be a daily driver...)

If Subaru put say, -1.5 camber and the tires started wearing really fast you can bet there would be tons of people complaining and wanting new tires and an alignment and Subaru would probably appease these people. Whereas the mitsubishi dealers just tell their customers it's their fault
(Now, of course subaru dealers do this as well just not as much)

I don't trust that article, it seems exactly the same as the ones i read a year or two ago. THe new motor trend said the old (05) sti was more tossable and easier to make oversteer than the new 06, which makes sense to me since they made it less to the rear. This article says the oppositte that u can feel the rear driving more. I dunno, who cares so many idiots have written the comparison articles, we aren't going to learn anything new, just drive them for yourself those guys are douchebags.
