Wow, that was a pretty harsh review, and the things they didn't like was the front-end, the back-end, and running costs? They said they also didn't like the interior, but if they think that our interior is worse than the Evo then they are badly mistaken. They could have at least given an objective review instead of just showing how bias they are towards the Evo.

Does it bother anyone else that the Brits almost always compare STi's to the FQ Evo's and assume they're fair comparisons?

hey guys,

after what you said I was expecting a harder article on the impreza. They still say that the sti is more charismatic and more involving than the evo. Of course the fq 340 is faster, it has 60hp more than the english sti.

For the running cost you're not thinking in european terms: I'm coming from switzerland and I know that my sti is far more expensive to maintain than let's say a 75 hp citroen diesel, that will do 1000 miles on a tank (10 gallons) even if you drive it fast as you can (not very fast so to speak) .

Top Gear always picks the EVO, BUT they are always comparing a different STi than what we have.

Stock for stock it appears the EVO is a much better handling track car, and that's how most of these places test it. Sure we could argue with an alignment and sway bars/pinks etc the STi can beat or hold it's own, but that's not how they come from the factory.

Clarkson does test the daily drivablity of the EVO on one of the episodes and he demonstrates the turbo lag vs a POS station wagon and the wagon wins in top gear from a 30mph roll. He also shows how bad the turning radius is for parking lots as he can't even do a U turn on the track without going on the grass. He also says on the track it gets about 4mpg.

Why are they comparing it to the FQ-340 is beyond me ... That review was pretty worthless... but I myself, consider the Evo IX to be a superior car than the STI in some aspects, though ... but don't compare the STI with the FQ-340...

It was the FQ 400! And both cars have their pros and cons! I swapped my Honda S 2000 for a STi because track type suspensions dont work well on the NY streets and its amazing what low end torque does to a cars driveability! Subie on!!!

Now that's funny. I guess if you get a black impreza, it will minimize that description
