It's better than the original design, but we don't reckon it's as good as the (not particularly nice) one it's replaced.
I agree with everything they say about the styling. It is fugly.

Stock for stock it appears the EVO is a much better handling track car, and that's how most of these places test it. Sure we could argue with an alignment and sway bars/pinks etc the STi can beat or hold it's own, but that's not how they come from the factory.

Clarkson does test the daily drivablity of the EVO on one of the episodes and he demonstrates the turbo lag vs a POS station wagon and the wagon wins in top gear from a 30mph roll. He also shows how bad the turning radius is for parking lots as he can't even do a U turn on the track without going on the grass. He also says on the track it gets about 4mpg.

Well, in all fareness, that was the Evo FQ 400... hardly the same car as the Evo sold in the US. Besides, that 400 was able to keep with the Murcielago throughout their test track... until the Lambo spun.

They do.

Bolt on a SZ55 or similar turbo and support mods and you've got one. Or you can go with a smaller turbo like the 20g and use meth injection.

Have you seen them in action. I was at their sponsored event in LACR last Dec 4. They were jumping off the line by at least 2 car lenghts with another modified STi. I can't really tell what happen at the end tho but they were there neck to neck. To me I won't pay the money they want for the ESX series. I would rather built my own. I don't know what you mean by their series is crap. Too much money probably.

All the bashing till the end of page 2

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=2>And if you get the boss Impreza into its natural environment - a quiet, flowing country road - it's still one of the most talented cars we've driven. And it's not just about the acceleration, braking and grip - impressive though they are. With its characterful engine, meaty steering and benign cornering manners the Impreza is a far more charismatic prospect than the faster but less emotionally involving Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX FQ-340. If you live and work in the middle of nowhere and can afford the insurance, servicing and sub-20 mpg economy that comes with hard use (not to mention the occasional speeding fine) then it's still easy to make a case for the STI.

Why does anyone even care what some yellow-toothed/bad-haired moron has to say about the STi? I doubt that many of us here took their opinions into consideration when we purchased our cars...

Ahh the one where they couldnt even match a stock STi quarter mile time, they ran like a 13.6...That car is a joke for the money they are asking I could throw a bigger turbo on with supporting mods, paint the car and have a hooker on the side

They're not necessarily crap, but they certainly are ugly as all get-out. : (

Their critiques of the exterior design are much deserved. The interior is is pretty bad too, but we've grown to accept it because of the performance the drivetrain gives us. Changing the design by merely grafting on a new front end every other year is not a good thing to do. It looks cheesy and will hurt resale values too.

I wonder what makes US spec STi's make 300hp while UK spec STi's are at 276 despite gaining the same 2.5L motor.

Not at all. They're basically admitting that a lesser Evo can't touch an STi.
