Ya.. Saw that one.. not bad, but the +25000$ is a big deciding factor for a lot of buyers. I personally like to start OEM and add along the way.

Saw the one in their showroom (if you can call it that) a couple of weeks ago. Not worth it, but if you collected cars then it might be. The question I have about the ESX version is: is it covered under warranty? Then maybe the extra money spent for the mods might be worth it.

The warranty is through ESX not Subaru. (I believe)

The ESX that I saw at South Coast Subaru did not have a 20g turbo. The turbo on the car had IHI stamped on the housing, so it could still be using the stock vf-39.

im pretty sure its still using the stock ihi turbo. the salesman was telling that they are actually only 375 to the crank. they have injen cai, injen cat back, larger tmic, and ecutek tune.

there are 2 different tunes, the road tune, ie 375hp, and the track tune, 425hp which doesn't do so well with emissions I guess. At least thats the way its been described to me.

Here's the 365hp one for sale on EBAY... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subar...65136994QQrdZ1

Spending that amount of money fits an absolute most diehard STi enthusiast who likes exactly what it offers, exactly how it looks, and exactly what it's capable of, and planned on doing all these mods on his current STI, also having chump change to burn. How much would it cost to buy a brand new STI, build it yourself to the ESX performance and features capability, and find someone to warranty it? The problem is this car is still an Impreza, and no matter how much better you make it, it will never be a true collectable sports car, because it's really just a modified economy car.

One other point to buying the esx STI is that it is hand painted. All of us know that the factory paint is thin and fractures at any rock thrown at it. Having it resprayed with 425 hp, differant wheels, nav, and all the other jive under warranty for about 15,000$ more is not a bad deal. If you want to do all of these mods anyway and have to farm out all of the work I think you would break even on cost. Another deciding factor is that a bank will loan the full amount on the esx sti instead of having to max out all the credit cards to pay for all the mods on your stock STI and pay interest for the next ten years on them. I like the idea of the esx STI and am shocked that the dealership has allowed such a car with a warranty. I think the red is cool, but the white strips are over the top ( no pun intended ) for me. I would leave the int blue so it would have a vibrant look clashing with the red paint ( just a fleeing thought of insanity). Or even better yet have them spray a custom color and have the seat inserts a color of choice too. If I were to spray your STI jambs and all I would charge about 5,500-6,500, plut it would be cut and rubbed and always looking wet. This is just my 2 cents. Remember its all a mater of prospective.
