Hey I know what you mean - I was holding out for the '06 in hope that there would more power or something else desirable from a performance point of view, and instead we get uglier and slower...

Now I need to decide whether to pick up an '05 STi or wait for the '07s. After my long spirited test drive in an '05 STi, I don't think that I can wait another year to trade in my WRX...

Just so you all know...
My dealer called me today. He said I was right to order the 05 instead of waiting for the 06 as he had suggested.

My reason for the 05 was fear of the price hopping up in 06 - well today he said it looks like the price IS going to jump considerably for the 06.

Thats his words.

We shall see!

Wow, slower, uglier, and costs more, next thing you know, when you purchase an STi a Subaru of America official will come up and kick your squarely in the balls!

Well I just called my local dealer and checked on '05 availability. Turns out you can't order them any more, but they had three already scheduled for delivery and all three were in the color I wanted...

I put a deposit down on a '05 STi crystal grey metallic with silver wheels. It will arrive at the dealer on 6/30. Enough waiting!

Oh and thanks to BoricuaSti for the push...

Of course there are other issues in terms of distribution, but you are accelerating 53 lbs more than last year with the same horsepower/torque. When it comes to peformance the ratio of weight/hp is extremely important (lower is better):

http://rennlight.com/light/perf.html

2005 STI: weight/hp = 11.0
2006 STI: weight/hp = 11.2

For comparison:

02 BMW M3 = 10.1
Dodge Viper GT2 = 7.5
Toyota Supra Turbo = 11.0
'73 Carrera 2.7 RS = 10.2 (2145 lbs)

I took 30 lbs out of my 911 and it made a noticable difference in both straight line performance and cornering.
Guess my fat ass friends aren't getting in my car unless they start dieting.

Does that make sense about the availability?

I asked the Mitsu dealer how late I could order an Evo 8/8 MR and they told another 4-5 months or so, like right up until the IX hits showrooms. I'd think they'd feed me BS about having to order it ASAP, does that make sense subaru is stopping orders for 05s now even though the 06s dont come out until fall?

I got the same story when I called another local dealer to try to order one. Just the STi I think.

Every factory has different release dates for their cars, Evo IX might not be actually hitting the showroom till beginning of 2006 and Mitsu might still be making the 8s.

STI are coming out shortly, they stoppped producing the 05 model earlier this year so you can't order them any more.

I am happy I got an 05 especially if there is a price increase, plus I negotiated on mine and I'm sure they won't come off a dime of the new ones for a while.

I realize this is a little off topic, but how much did you pay above dealer invoice for your '05? I'm basically paying the dealer invoice for mine, but I've heard that some people have been getting them for less recently.

Oh reallly. Do you know any more details about when? And how do you know for sure that the 05s are no longer in production?
