ok, when I saw all the older artist renditions, and speculative photochops, I thought the car looked hideous. When I first saw this thread this afternoon, I was sorely disappointed in what subaru did to the car....

it's now about 6 hours later... and I'm taking second looks... and I'm kinda starting to like it.

I really love the 04/05 look of the STi. If I knew for sure that the '06 had no performance/handling upgrades, I'd go out and buy an '05 for sure. But, with that question still in mind, and the new look growing on me, its getting tough.

When I compare the two now...

looks great, but the front end is kinda 'smiley' looking

way too suzuki looking... but after staring for a while, now looks like an angry cat...

I'm just gonna have to see one in person to decide...

For some reason I don't think we will see that stuff until Subaru releases an all new car.

I really dislike the new '06. I really wanna get my hands on an '05 before its to late. the front end kills me and the back...ew. I was looking at wrxfanatics.com and they had a poll on the new look. 4 people said they liked the new look and 51 said they hated it. oh well

I like the headlight design better than the '04/'05 design... Hate the center "mouth" on the grill of the '06. Though it may be funtional, I don't like the new "shelf" on the front bottom edge.

Since we are used to the older model, this will seem alien. However, the first time I saw the 04 model I was doubtful...I like the new shape and as time goes on i guess that i will get to like it even more as always happens.

(Referring to in/exh AVCS, added HP) To the contrary, I would be very surprised if there were *not* some notable perfomance improvements in the '06. Look at all of the '04 to '05 changes.

Besides which they're going to need to provide *some* reason for people to buy that goofy nose job!

Cheers!

My .02 I don't hate the front end but I wouldn't call it improved. This car needs some protection for the radiator too. The front lights are better in the 06' but The rear ones are horrendous. I agree that this might be primping us for the 07 redesign. My 04' has almost 30k on it and I think I'll hold my cards until the 07' comes out. Please give me warrantied hp gains. Kill the pink badges. Kill them dead. Seat colors need to match the exterior!

I like it. I'd take it in black.

Black is better! I have WRB (makes blue sound better) and would kill for black with tint, debadged, smoke screen and oil slick.

Ya.. You want lift on airplanes... not cars...

And on to the new car... Why is EVERY car company under the sun going to these rocket launcher looking rear tail lights... it looks ricey and reminds me of the Altezza... I guess i can deal with that...

But, the front looks too smooth... I really don't like it. I really like the agressiveness that drove me to buy the MY00 2.5RS (in the mold of the R33GTR, EVO8, EVO4, GC8), but the new design just looks (for lack of a better word) whimpy. Unless the technological gains are minimal, I think i'll plunk down invoice for the '05, get the S203 (or was it S204) rear wing and get the front lip spoiler. That, i think looks much better.

Pretty cool ... I like the 06 .. it will grow more on me eventually ..

And I really do like the taillights ... red on top, clear on bottom half ... looks very european ... reminds me of this :

I would so do those taillights on my 04 ...

How does the new tail lights one remind you of the above? Theres clearly a diff in my eyes... And i didn't notice the rear roof wing as well. Did they screw up when they tested the aerodynamics?

I was reading all the comments in this thread and noticed this ... apparently all the 'older' members like it ... the newer members don't ...
