Bleh, at least the Japanese and UK special tuner cars are actually worth the money. Pfft.

the cost is all relative, but as an incremental increase over the base STi costs, the other market tuner offerings are more reasonable, but the base price of the STi is MUCH higher than here. (UK STi standard cost 28,995 GBP or $53,208 by todays conversion rate) By this thinking the ESX car is a GREAT value.

It's not fair to look at the conversion rate of the USD to the GBP as if they're paying more for it over there. The average UK citizen is making about the same amount of money in porportion to the US citizen. What I mean to say is, let's say the average US citizen makes $50K USD/year, then the average UK citizen makes 50K GBP/year. It's not fair to say that they make $90K USD/year. They're only advantage is that their GBP goes a looooooonnnnnggg way with the USD. Their standard of living is comparible to ours, the pricing are the same. Waitresses are making 20K GBP/year. A high quality burger there costs 6-8 GBP. For a US citizen, our dollar doesn't get jack! I was there, and wasn't happy about having to pay $16 for a burger.

The UK dealers, however, might be getting very rich...depending on the currency conversion rate to the JPY.

I can tell you that LOTS of Brits are importing US made products, and doing quite well...

Well, that's the only reason that anybody should ever buy an ESX STi...is the potential rarity value in 30 years. This means that it needs to be flatbedded off the lot into storage. And pray that Ali Afshar becomes some kind of legend. I know Ali...he sold me a Buick Grand National a few years ago. They made 547 GNX's, which had just about the same amount of mods done, compared to the STi, and 18 years later, a GNX with 216 original miles is now selling on Ebay for $50K. The original price was only about $18K-19K (vs. the standard GN price of $17K). So the added cost (11% higher) to rarity factor was excellent for the GNX. The ESX STi is 69% higher vs. the standard STi. I'll pass on that investment.

And my STi has about the same hp (370) as the ESX, and right...it took about $3K to get that. (APS TBE, AccessPort, header).

Lets look at it this way:
Stock $106.66/hp ($32k/300)
ESX STI $122.35/hp (52k/425)

There, now that don't look too bad considering the alternatives.
Porsche 911 $215.38/hp ($70k/325)
Corvette coupe $112.50 ($45k/400) But it only has two seats.
Viper $172/hp ($86k/500) Again only has two seats
Audi S4 $144.11/hp ($49k/340)

So there you have it. I think the ESX is a good value for what you get compared to what is out there. And it comes with a warranty, awd and room for 4 beautiful women.

Try that in a Corvette druring the winter. Trust me, snow and a corvette do not mix.

I'd buy it. Just not in arrest-me-red.

I bought my STI to use and drive daily, winter and summer. I can't imagine buying an STI like this and using it daily. This is an attempt at making the STI a vintage machine. Simply, it's not, because it's based off an Impreza. I can't see anyone having use for Navigation, because the buyers of this car will take it out on fairweather days, and it's price takes away the essence of STI being a great overall car for high performance, affordability, and practicality. I'd rather slap on a nice DVD in-dash system in my STI, do some mods to increase performance, while keeping it tame looking and not loud, and save all that money to boot.

If nothing else, it may not depreciate as much as a modded STi.

I sunk (yes, sunk) 15k into my Civic Si and ended up with a car that was easily outperformed by the STi, which is why I so easily traded in the civic. When I tried to sell my civic, no-one was willing to pay anywhere close to book value due to the mods. I may as well have thrown the 15k into the trash and keyed each body panel before I sold it. A car that comes from the factory with all of that has not technically been modded, so even if it doesn't GAIN value, it may LOSE less if it is treated properly.

This is why I am not modding my STi. It does what I need and will eventually be my winter car when I can afford something else for summer and track. I will never again make the mistake of sinking money into a (albeit respectful) economy car.
