Hatchback?!?! Its all-right looking but I still like my sedan. That concept would be very interesting nevertheless.

eliminating turbos? i never heard that
i figured that opening is to cool the intercooler, it's only a concept and they probably related it more to a WRC setup
the whole car reminds me of a 206

That is the best concept I 've seen so far. It sure would be nice if they could keep the weight under 3000lbs.

Wow you aren't kidding...

300hp/300lb-ft in a 2900lbs-3000lbs 2dr hatchback would be awesome. Keep the STi bare-bones like it is now and that thing will be awesome. I still do not like the nose and those lights aren't really thrilling either. The idea is what is interesting.

I hope this isn't Subaru saying "HMMMM looks like the Ford Focus is doing pretty well, let compete with it." After all ford does have the Focus in the WRC and it is a Consumer Reports recommended buy. A hatch would be cool, but I see enough hatch back civics running around here with bigger motors think that it is all that.

i dont understand why you guys like hatchbacks so much, am I the only crazy person here that doesnt like anything but the Legacy and the STI and some modded rex's? Sorry it baffles me, different generation I guess. hatchbacks or avants or anything of that sort doesnt do it for me at all.

I like hatchbacks for their carrying capacity. My RSX was awesome and I was able to pickup a 21" CRT and fit the whole box into my 2dr coupe/hatchback (with the rear seats down of course.) That wouldn't have worked with my STi.

Hatchbacks can be really nice. Just because it is a hatchback, doesn't mean it has to be the size of a CRX or old Civic HB.

...and hatchbacks have been around since the 70s (or earlier), so I don't think it is a "generation" thing.

Default Re: newbie question

They are eliminating TURBOs from 2007 in the WRC top rank only. Junior WRC and Manufacturer classes will retain TURBO though.

And hatchback so makes sense for weight - they have to do this to compete with Ford and Skoda.

What you guys can't read in that article unless you can read Japanese is that they ask the big question right on the front - How will Mitsubishi react with the EVO? Obvioulsy they are going to have to go hatch as well.

Isn't the Jr WRC non turbo 1600cc already? I believe that rule to engine changes has once again been cancelled/put on hold. Turbo 2.0's is still the go for next season at the moment... Wish they would make up their minds.

I have been talking about this for months, alot of people told me I was stupid and Subaru would never make Impreza a hatchback. Anyhow, same person who told me hatchback will come also said target weight is 2800-3000lbs... So even if power doesnt rise above the current 300hp before then, it will still be bloody quick.

As per Mitsubishi and hatchback. I read a while back about Mitsubishi using the Colt and EVO'ing it... however then they go and show concept sketches of the EVO X at that motorshow. EVO IX was suppose to be the last "lancer" based EVO... Will see what happens there.

I love the idea of a hatchback, small, light, nimble... Will be awesome. I still miss my Version 5 type R, that thing was light and very quick 8)

Not feelin it. I like the sedan look in all its seks-a-ness. That's the main reason I chose the STi is because the fact it's a four door. Otherwise, I'd have a supra or 350z. Id miss the awd burnouts tho

I love hatches, but I just dont think its appealing.
